Nah I use different tyres it being a 400. Dunlop GPR80's being a good trade-off between grip and wear. Been using the GPR70SP's recently for track days etc.
A rear GPR80 lasted over 1k longer than an 010. You'd think a smaller-bike only tyre would last less than something designed for larger bikes |

It must be what you are doing with your bike and the way you ride.
I have Bridgestone 20's on my CBR1000, which is 132BHP, it had about 1500 miles on the back one when I got it (replaced at MOT time on same reciept), and I have done another 3,000 miles. It is starting to look a little squared off now, but is still fine, with several mm's of tread. ____________________ Richard

I got about 5000 miles and 5 trackdays out of my rear 010, and only had to get rid cos it was cooked up the sides... so feck knows what you're doing to kill an 020 so fast. |

Hi
The Hornet has a top speed (accordng to Bike magazine) of 141mph, and the GPR70 and GPR80 are both H rated (maximum of 131mph) so not really meant to be used on the Hornet (might give insurance problems on the road, and would be very illegal for use in Germany, for example).
I have the same problem with the FZR600. BT010 and BT014 are the only options I have, as any others available in the right size are H rated. Toying with using a set of GPR70s on the spare wheels to use for track days, as the FZR is not really likely to get over 130 on most tracks.
The VFR400 is a bit dubious with those tyres as well.
Bit of a pain because the BT010 are around £180 for my bike, against around £150 for the GPR70.
All the best

I would throughly recommend Avon Av49/50's.........but not for mileage!!!
1500 miles from a back tyre....
It's not the tyre but how you ride it. You can't have the best of both worlds but I hear the BT014 are good? |

You must absolutly hammer your throttle on the straights! I had a BT010 on the rear of my hornet and it lasted for 3500 and was stillfine when the bike was writen off!
I now have one on the rear of my TL1000R which eats tyres for breakfast. I started squaring it off at 2000miles, so i took it easy in the straight and powered round any bends and virtually reshaped it by 2500 miles. They are ok, unless you are absolutly ripping off the line everywhere, baring in mind the hornet poduces somewhere around 40 foot pounds oftorque and the TL-R is supposed to produce around 86 foot pounds!
I'm supprised you got through the BT020 so quickly!
I ound the Dunlops on a 180 section quite unstable in a straight line in the wet, not very pleasant! ____________________ TL1000R Parts For Sale! |
