I've often wondered why no-ones does this: a bike washing service.

You know what it like with your car (well, you will if you own one). This time of year it's filthy, can't read the front numberplate etc, so what do you do? Spin into the first garage you see, chuck three quid at the spotty A-Level reject behind the counter and then sit in your car whilst it is cleaned for you (after spending ten minutes trying to unscrew the aerial).

What have bikers got? Bugger all. It's not like you can even jet wash them very safely (or easily). Everytime I come back at the moment it means another bloody hour cleaning the bike. The summer's not so bad as long as you don't mind removing the remains of the insect genocide that happens at 60+mph, but it's still a pain. An hour cleaning the bike so that it's spotless, then within five miles it needs doing again

Am I alone in thinking I'd quite happily pay someone £15 to clean my bike all over so that I didn't have to do it? Once a month would be fine - in between that you can do the "quick wash" (which is normally reserved for when you can't be arsed or haven't got time to spend fifteen minutes trying to clean clain lube off your hugger with a fuggin tooth brush).

If someone else wants to take my idea and start a business, I applaud them. I want no cut of profits, just a discount

I'd want more than £15, I spend 2 - 3 hours giving mine a 'toothbrush' clean.

You can have £20 then. A bloke comes and does the cars at work, spends about an hour on each and charges £9!!

It's actually something that I did think about. Clean and polish / wax bike. Adjust and oil / wax chain. All you would need is a small escort van and a map.

People do do this sort of thing... but a lot less common than car washers. Maybe because a lot of the owners that would want to pay loads to do it (think it tends to be around £40 for a decent clean), are quite happy to sit and polish their bikes rather than ride them .

(I do remember a time a long time ago when I used to wash and polish my bike every week or two ).

I would imagine it's quite a specialist service, like pet grooming or exorcism . And with the small number of bikes you would be cleaning I think you would still have to offer to wash cars and vans to make any money.

There's a guy near me that specialises in Harleys. Christ, with all that chrome it must take him hours!

I would do this in my spare time except there are not many bikers around here and for £20 I could get a bike spotless.

I wash mine practically every week properly and rinse off salt etc daily!
