The time we call "summer" is quickly approaching (you know them 2 days it doesnt rain for)

And I fancy making a few trips etc and want some soft luggage for my bike.

These are the ones I am looking at, It seems a good deal.

Would you say its a good idea to get some soft luggage that I can remove as I wont want to use it every day, Just when I need to.

Is that a good deal or should I get a differant sort of luggage.

Opinions please, thanks in advance.

At that price you can't go wrong imho. I have the sports panniers which are excellent. I also bought a 1st time tankbag from HG the other day...£60. I know I could have got it cheaper but needed it there and then to carry stuff.

I use Oxford 'humpback' panniers, well handy.

Personally I don't like tank bags as I don't think you would see your speedo etc when the bag is full.

Cheap deal though Thumbs Up Invest in the cloth thing that protects your paintwork as luggage will rub the colour away.

Well, you know what I think of the oxford first time luggage range, dodsi Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Flip - I've got the equipment that dodsi has linked to, infact, I bought from the same place. The tankbag, when fully extended doesn't obscure my view of the clocks, although at first I did think this would happen. Fully extended, I've got plenty of space to see. Make turning circles that little bit bigger though. Unless, you want to do a full u-turn, with your horn button pressed down Laughing

Never again Razz

How do you mean? As in the extra dimensions added to your bike or the weight? Confused

Took my bike out, with all the above luggage fitted, and it still made for some easy, smooth 3 car-at-a-time overtaking. Had to filter through glasgow city centre with the lot on as well, didn't have any problems there although I'm willing to accept glasgow is pretty simple in traffic means when compared to somewhere like london where its more "hustle n' bustle" Smile

I've never actually been a fan of any of Oxfords gear and have always gone for alternatives.

In 2002 I bought a Cargo Endurance Tailpack after a painful incident with a backpack and the road.
The tailpack was joined by a Tankbag in 2003 and they have been in use alot since. I think they Tankbag was £64.99 and the tailpack £69.99 both bought from the now defunct Riossi but anyone who deals with Frank Thomas gear will deal in them.

I really can't highly recommend them highly enough, even when the strap snapped on the tankbag Frank Thomas the distributors repaired it no questions asked as they come with a 10 year guarantee.

You can have a look at the range here https://www.frank-thomas.co.uk/product/cargo/endurance.html Smile.

I have used and filtered with oxford humpbacks for a couple of years now and never really had a problem, even when the bags were expanded to full .......

The only thing to bear in mind is not let them near the end can or yuo willhave toasted undercrackers

Ok, well my overtakes tend to be very fast and close, and the thought of clipping a pannier on the side of a car at say 90 odd when they are doing 40...

Limits me to a big top box and tank luggage i think.

depends on your bike (generally the bigger the better) but my rule of thumb is that if the mirrors are wider than the panniers (look from the back of the bike to check) then it'll fit through the gap(s). Just be careful if your mirrors are high and the panniers are low.

I've got some of the Endurance cargo stuff too. I've got the large rucksack with zip- off bottom & the tank bag.
It is as rugged as you like, and the 10 year guarantee was an attraction. Not had to use it yet though, but nice to know it gets honoured.

Pricey, but I trust it.

Those Oxford throwovers are fine, I have a set (or very similar set). Tested up to 130mph by yours truly, nae bother. If you expand them all the way they get stupidly bulky (which is handy if you can't be arsed packing properly). Mine have heatproof bits on too which will cope with occasionally brushing the zorst as you go over a bump.

Throw some wonderweb over your paintwork before using them.
