CLAMPED!!!

Had to share this and to warn you people.

I can't find any news items yet but Motorcycles/scooters are getting
clamped for having NO road tax. The images I've posted were taken
in PARK WALK in Chelsea.

serves them right for not paying there tax, but with there scooters being clamped and possabley over a few nights as they pay the fine would,nt it be perfect for thiefs to nick them.

As posted before: I don't have any news on the net about this so I
can't say if this clamping is just in parts of London or countrywide.

It's quite shocking to see a scooter clamped, hence me posting the
images.

If anyone finds any news on this post it here, this is serious.

Nah, just kidding, I agree though, heftily fine the owners, no-one is immune from road tax. They deserve the fine. Although I was under the ipresion that you got fined through the post automatically these days.

If some b*stard clamped either my bike or my car I would go get a stillsaw and cut the bugger off then dump it in the harbour.

I would then deny all knowelge and claim I was not in the area at the time. My word against theirs!

In Scotland the immobalising of someones vehicle then demanding a release fee is a criminal offence of "Illegal Extortion." As Edinburgh university found out to their cost (of a new padlck and chain which I hacksawed off) when they tried to impound my bicycle.

Couple of years ago when I enquired about parking on the pavement in Westminster they said I'd get away with it cos they couldn't clamp bikes. Seems someone's finally seen the money making opportunity and designed a clamp so they can.

As far as the tax thing goes, I'd hope they'll check whether it's taxed or not via the numberplate - plod certainly did when my scooter had no tax disc. If it's parking attendents though, bet they wont.

I'm actually vaguely for this clamping, and I'll tell you why. There's not nearly enough motorcycle bays in London, and you can often find one or two 'abandoned' bikes in any given bay, especially those near houses. There was a scooter under a cover for two years in the one near my house - never moved. That's not really on - the demand for bike parking is massive and these dead bikes just take up room that people would actually use.

Trouble is, the abandoned bikes'll probably remain abandoned, just with a clamp on them. Wonder if they get removed after a period of time?

Seems a little harsh. I thought the DVLA had this new 'Big Brother' computer now for just sending you a tax bill fine if you hadn't paid already

btw - Is it an offence not to 'display' the disc and why would someone nick it anyway; doesn't it have your registration on?

What worries me is who's doing the clamping? Is it a private company who just has a quick look on the bike for a tax disc,or someone with access to the DVLA computer who can tell if the bikes taxed from the plate?

As Foxbat says the offence is actually a failure to display a valid tax disc,so are they clamping under this or for not having a taxed bike?

I actually take back what i said earlier. I had my tax disc stolen too not long ago, surely they can just look on the computer and see if its been paid for?
