I'm after a new Ignition coil and HT Lead for my NSR125RY. Had some trouble with it this morning and after recieving a few electric shocks I noticed that part of the rubber insulation has broken down causing the spark to arch to the frame rather than sending it to the spark plug!

Any ideas where to get one, mail order preferably! Thumbs Up

What year is the bike? The coil, HT lead and cap all come together and are basicaly one component.

For the really old NSR it is about £15, for later ones around £30.

www.davidsilverspares.co.uk - give them a ring.

They stock every single part for the NSR, so could not possibly list everything on the website. Ring them up, what are you afraid of Laughing

Just rang him up!

Cost for coil, lead and cap and postage £65.85!

Can anyone beat that, if so let me know!

Ouch Neutral

I have one off a 2003 UK bike somewhere in the shed if you want to try that, tenner for it?

Will dig it out and test it if you are interested.

Are there any codes on the coil?

Hi

If it is shorting then the problem is almost certainly the plug cap or lead, and these should both be replaceable cheaply. Plug caps are a few pounds while the lead is sold cheaply. Normally the leads are just screw fit into the coil (they go onto a self tapping screw on coming out of the coil), although sometimes not listed as a seperate part.

All the best

Keith

I guess its the coil thats the expensive bit then!. I'm gonna get a new cap and see what results I get with that.

When it comes to the lead I have been told that it has to have the correct resistance level otherwise I would still experience problems, any ideas on this?

Cheers

Hi

Unless massively out of spec it is not likely to cause any real problems.

All the best

Hello all,

Thanks for the advice. I got a new replacement cap (£3.85, BARGAIN) today and the bike starts on the button. A slight increase of power aswell which is always good.

Thanks once again
