Well if its in very good condition and well maintained then £900 is reasonably fair, especially if the bikes got nice new tyres, brakes, chain&sprockets etc. If not these consumable items are the things that you can and should use to get the seller to reduce the price. Id buy a bike like a kmx and worry more about condition, and regular maintainence than age or mileage. At 18'000m it might if its never had a top end re-build be getting a bit noisy and smokey, but if it runs well and accelerates strongly through the whole rev range then the engine should be fine for now. Kmx's can break up the powervalves, if they get stuck due to carbon build up, and if this happens, you will usually have no power after 7k.
You can probably find 00/02 bikes for about £1500 in good condition, and i wouldnt pay more than £1800 even for a nearly new one. trouble with kmx's and Dt's is that being decent 125's they are in demand, and there doesnt seem to be many about, apart from the usual stolen/crashed/trashed field bikes you see advertised all over E-bay etc.
My kmx200 is an 88 model with 26'000m, and i got it for £600, which is a very good price for a 200, as they are rare to even find one for sale, but it had loads of things that were worn, or needed replacing, not including the engine blow up i had 600miles later. It was still relatively a bargin, as a kmx that appears to be in good condition could fetch £1000-£1300 easily! |
