Is there any way of getting away with a fine/points if you get done by a gatso?

I've heard you may get away with it if you say you don't know who was riding it at the time, maybe your cousin from another country?

Chances are they'll send you a pic riding in your leathers.

I remember a family friend tried to pull the 'I can't be sure who was driving' so they sent him a picture of him, face on, driving the car.

Obviously it's a bit different on a bike.

You broke the law, it's your turn to pay the price. And in turn I'll do it too.

I dunno if this would work. Could you say you were selling your bike, someone came to test ride it, they left a full cash payment as security so you only knew them by their first name and didn't see any ID you had the value of the bike in cash anyway?

People can be insured to operate other peoples' vehicles, so that's not an issue. Also, if you're settling via the fixed penalty scheme, they'd be unlikely to check anwyay (obviously a different matter if you take it to court).

Personally, I wouldn't begin to advise that you create a person to take the blame. Unless it was a robot. A very human-like robot. That has a passport and driving licence. Maybe.

Contest it.

Go to court - in the weeks leading up to it they'll send out a helicopter, a plane, and maybe a couple of RAF fighters to follow you.

You'll still get your 3 points and a 60 quid fine, but at least you'll have cost them Very Happy Thumbs Up .

Costing them ? It's costing us, all of us Neutral

The chances os getting awat with it nowadays are pretty slim. If you can't tell them who was riding then the registered owner of the vehicle gets the points.
AFAIK there is something going through the European courts at the moment, something like its against our civil rights to prosecute if all the facts are not known.

As they are mainly interested in the money then a licence is all that is required. They are highly unlikely to check the insurance situation.

However if they did then I suspect they would really think up some nasty crime to charge you with.

All the best

Those would be included in your court costs Wink Although you could ask for an itemised bill hehe

Perverting the course of justice?

Something like only 1in5 cameras have any film in them, so thats one thing... alternatively go and blow the gasto that got you up, no camera, no fine.

Theres very little weaseling your way out of these, contest it and you can end up paying out a hell of allot more, if you dont want to get got then keep to the limit, if your not doing anything wrong then you've got nothing to worry bout (well, usually).

Take it you dont pay pole tax then? It costs the Police sweet F.A. But it costs the tax payer wich is everyone.

As Mr.Everready has said I doubt you would get away with it as your not the first to be caught speeding and try to worm your way out of it. They have heard it all before and have photographic evidence. Just pay the fine and take the points......Oh and slow down. Rolling Eyes

...and surely it's Poll Tax anyway?

Although I wouldn't put it past Brown to start charging us for walking past telephone poles....

I get quite miffed with people who follow the "well at least it cost the government/police/courts to catch me", when the average cost of a few cases in a magistrates court probably exceeds the amount many of us pay in tax each year. If that's the situation, then where is the money to pay for all of the services I expect going to come from?

I thought it was an offence to fail to provide the details of the rider.

Unfortunately I got the letter a while ago.

From this post:

BadDog wrote:
Passed my test on 17th November '04. Since then I've got 6 points for speeding.

First was a plod up North for doing 75 in a 50. Wouldn't let me off - but he did say I was still accelerating when he took his finger off the trigger... so kind of fair play. Woulda lost me license over 80.

Second was about 5 miles from my house... a f***cking speed camera that I didn't know was even there.

So that's £120 in fines in two months, and at this rate me due to lose my license in March. Wish you could buy points back or drive round cones in a school playground for a day instead or summat. I'm gonna have to ride like a pussy for 3 years. Words cannot express how sick I feel.

Worried about 1, losing my license and 2, how much my insurance is gonna be next year.

Be a man, take it on the chin and learn from it. Or, if you prefer, ignore it, carry on the way you are, and eventually lose your licence. Only you have the ability to stop further points. If you want to go fast, do it on a track.

It ain't rocket science.
