Hi all.

I'm having a spot of trouble with a cheapo C90 I just bought. The indicators (front and rear) turn on but don't flash at all. I don't know (or care particularly) if the bike's had some kind major drop and been totally refitted with new electrics. However, I need to correct the problem to avoid being pulled over. I would be grateful if someone could answer the following questions:

1) What bulb wattage is req'd in the indicators?
2) In case it's a circuit problem, where is the circuit (to save me pulling everything apart)?

Many TIA

What sort of C90, they have different voltages, what year is it? Failing that, does it have a round or a square headlamp?

If the wattages are correct, it is probably the indicator relay. Look for a thing that looks like this:

They usually have either 2 or 3 pins. Take it to a bike shop and ask for a new one. They are not expensive.

I will check the bulb wattages tomorrow at work (where my manual is) once you have got back with the model.

Could be a faulty earth?

The flasher unit coud be knackered too, do both sides come on, front and back?

I'd say flasher unit first though... either not connected right or ded...

somebody here might know if you get really stuck...

Thanks Stinkwheel. It's a 12V C90 (1988, square headlamp).

Do you think it's possible to fix the indicator relay without buying a new one?

Unfortunately the above message board does'nt allow posts any more.

Would'nt happen to know where the flasher unit is, would you? Is it in the dash? Is it a microchip thing or could it be fixed with hand tools? Thanks

I can't remember where it is, it may say in my manual (my cub was stolen and burned about 18 months ago), I would try under the saddle or behind one of the side-panels. The one in that piccy is about 1/4 actual size, they are about 3/4" in diameter.

You can't really get into the relays as they are in a pressed aluminium housing. Chances are even if you did get into them, you would just find a mass of corroded metal. They are usually 'throwaway' mechanical relays (some are solid-state but not on a cub) and if a new one is more than three quid, they are trying to rip you off. A breakers would probably give you one for free.

They commonly stop working after sitting for a while. The floor of my back yard is littered with knackered flasher relays.

The C90-G (cub), which is the one they were making in 1988 takes 10w flasher bulbs.

Flasher relay should be under the right hand side cover next to the battery, although they do tend to migrate about and acumulate more PVC tape with age.

Iv had this problem before, not on a C90, but on my GS125. Turned out to be a faulty earth but replaced the flasher anyway as it was full of crap.
