I haven't been on my beloved Blue Bettie for a while, due to this and that and what not,...but my Fiance has been on her, doing stuff here and there.

Now...he is not a 'wash the bike' kind of man.
He just rides the bike in all weathers...locks her up..cover..indoors.
I do the cleaning, etc...
usually.

So...bored earlier...thought "I will go give the bike a good old clean..spruce up...lube the chain, etc..etc..."

I pulled back the bike cover !!
Noooooooooooooo !!

The devil got to my bike.
RUST.
To be precise...rusty wheels !!

I was heartbroken.
My fault,..well partly his too...but MY bike was..ill.

I know that's a daft thought..but I truly did feel guilty !!

I have just spent the last two hours scrubbing, washing, polishing, lubing the BB...and now she looks gleaming.

I will not let her get that bad again.
Hopefully.

I thought men were supposed to like tinkering with bikes...or does that just include fixing things and not cleaning them ??

I now have oil on my keyboard as I haven't washed my hands properly.

..(and God knows why I posted this in NB's...it was meant to go in Gen Bike C..sheesh)

Chrome wheels are a pain, I had the same problem. So I used Auto Glym clean wheels on mine, its like acid, but your not meant to use it on chrome, it looked crap already so I used it anyway. Then polished the rims and spokes and sprayed WD40 all over them every time I have washed it over the winter. Hasn't rusted again yet so it done the job.

dont use wd40. use muc-off bike spray. it's meant for mtb's, it's like wd40 but has a higher rust anti body or something. works a treat. they sel it at halfords in the bike dock bit. you can also get a pck with the muc off cleaning fluid. spray on, leave fro 20 seconds, wash off. dosn't damagee you paint and leaves a nice shine afterwards. ok, found a motorbike one aswell : https://www.muc-off.co.uk/motorcycleduo.html

If you (or yours) are using the bike as you say I'd recommend getting some Scottoiler FS365 spray (click here for info).

After a ride just let it cool down a bit (lock it and get your bike kit off) then spray before you cover.

I clean mine in work every couple of days - it is my job to clean things after all and I may aswell take use of their chemicals...
