Evening!
I am going to have my first ever bike lesson on Sunday to smooth off my many rough edges with slow speed control.
I have spent the day with my bike (Yamaha SR125) making sure that everything is clean and working fine, but have noticed two things, which may or may not need attention.
Firstly, when the bike is on the centre stand and I start the engine with the choke out (ie high revs), the back wheel starts to turn, is it meant to do this? I can't say I have ever noticed it doing it before, but the bikes normally on the side stand when I start it.
Secondly, there is a clicking noise coming from the engine when it is idling, it clicks every 2 seconds. I first noticed this last week, but I'm not sure if it always did it. There's been no changes in performance that I've noticed, and everything else seems OK.
Your advice, as always, is greatly appreciated! |

Ay up DLAM
Back wheel turning while the engine is running is quite normal. One of the gear shafts is turning off the crankshaft but the other one (with the drive sprocket on it) is not as you're in neutral.
However, oil drag means the the shaft that's being driven will impart some motion to the other one and pull it round. Obviously on the side stand there's not enough drag to turn the wheel otherwise it'd tip over every time
Dunno about the click though, sorry, there's not much in an engine that only rotates every 2 seconds even on tickover. |

Cheers matey.
Glad to hear that about the back wheel.
Someone on here once said about SRs and CGs, "Don't worry about any noise that their engines make, unless they actually stop working". So I shall just ignore it. |

Tough little engines, I suspect they get nil maintenance in the Far East where you can't move for 'em. Bit like a Lada - run it till it stops, then throw it away and get another |
