Oh they still are! Just I saw this huge collecton and thought it would be nice! Razz

Did see a Rossi Replica R1 though. Unfortunately it was moving so fast I couldn't get a picture. Sad

It's great fun watching moped riders in Rome, there are so many they pretty much own the roads. Laughing

Seeing all those bikes was a major factor in my decision to do my CBT. Thumbs Up

Didn't have much time looking at bikes, most of the time watching out for professional pikeys pickpocketing. Smile

PostPosted: 17:03 - 15 Feb 2005    Post subject: Are scooters just for girls? Reply with quote

I guess I'll get a slating but I'm going to say it anyway.

I've always considered scooters to be a girls mode of transport, just like girls bikes have a low crossbar for obvious reasons scooters seem to have been designed with the skirt in mind.

I'm not trying to be offensive, I'm just curious what makes someone at 16 go for a scooter as opposed to a 50cc (traditional) bike, is it fashion, cost or am I missing something else here?

when I first got on the roads I bought a 100cc scooter because I was a fucking idiot with no idea about bikes.

Now you will have to prise my 500 from cold dead hands.

Ahh, the joys of rome, where the pavement becomes a racetrack - It's still a nice place to go to even though i havent been since 92. But if you're on the lookout for bikes, be careful of the bikers in Venice... Rolling Eyes Wink Shit forgot they don't have any roads lol. But i guess the italian passion for scooters is unsurpassable.

A response that I'm sure must make you feel better, but It's not true I'm afraid.
I am genuinley not jealous of you, I much prefer my "boyracer's first bike" Smile.
Did I mention that I like cars and spend time at cruises checking out the cars?
Calling me a boy racer isn't the insult you intended it to be Smile.

Still I'm sure you're happy with your bike as I'm happy with mine, but please don't assume that I'd want to go near it Smile.

I dont think I would have another scooter after owning one.

I like looking uber cool on my big boys bike rather than looking a pillock on a scooter.

I can see why the Italians ride mopeds in Rome because the traffic is so "stop and go" like and they are dead simple to operate.

Crossing a road as a pedastrian was a completely different kettle of fish in Rome you basically had your life at your own hands and hoped that people would stop when they saw you at zebra crossings etc.

The public transport was definately appauling and I was genuinly scared on the Metro at the fear of pickpockets and the like. Dodgy, dodgy people. Smile
