Right, I got my test on the 9th of March and I’m nervous.
I have already been looking at the bikes I could purchase, before I was thinking silly like “When I pass I’m getting a 999R”.
Well now it’s actually come to it I realise I can’t have a bike like that for what I’m doing as I’m not part time.
I have been looking at the following……..
Suzuki DRZ Enduro 400 or moto version.
Honda 400 Enduro (I forget the name) XLR?
And a WR450 from Yamaha.
All my sort of bike, apart from I don’t like the styling too much from Yamaha.
What shall I get if I pass, I am commuting everyday, and I’ll be going to ride outs, fairly long journeys.
I have not looked at KTM as it is a competition bike, but I love the look of them.
Some chap suggested NC30, I’m all confused.

I would recommend the nc30 but then again i am biased
Id say after your test try to test ride a couple and see what you think, if you cant test ride then at least go and sit on a few different bikes and see whats comfy. We are all built differently so whats comfy for one person might not be the case for the next.
Good luck with the test |

Depends on what your after. You mentioned a few MX/commuter type bikes. Are you after something like a Suzuki DRZ400 or a Sports bike like the NC30??
2 totally different bikes..... ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

Thanks a lot guys, I am crapping it about the test. If anyone wants to just put down in here some last minute warnings then go ahead.
I have ridden sports, enduro, off road etc then thing is for what I do is something like an NC30 a decent bike for that or am I going to find myself going ballistic styles on the way to work.
Is a NC30 good for motorway riding etc, I gather from the response the NC30 is a riders bike, many people recommend it.
I am v interested in a 400 4-stroker as I can image it is not too fast, not too un-reliable and comfortable on long journeys. How fast does one go, 90-100 maybe ?
Thanks again. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

Isn't a WR450 a competition bike too??
Depends what you want it for, in my ideal garage i'd have a supermoto and a sportsbike, but if i had to pick it would be the sportsbike.
Just my opinion though. |

Nc30's are fine for motorways, a little less so if you downgear though. They'll cruise all day long at 85-90. I must add, after spending 40 minutes trying to bump-start mine last Saturday night, it isn't always easy Never had a problem before doing it though
A point to bear in mind, if you're riding on a restricted licence and want to keep legal, is that quite a lot of MX bikes don't have restricter kits available from FI etc. |

To be honest Claude I would like a big bike, I have been riding for about 5+ years now and had many bikes. But I have had a go on a Gixxer 750R and I don’t think I’d be alright on it. I think I’d have a nasty on it.
I have been interested in a large super moto or a comfy reliable sports that looks tasty. NC30 is nice. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

Not saying NC30s are bad, far from it. But if had to ratch up the miles, motorway etc, I would probably get something a bit more flexible, perhaps Cbr600f/Thundercat something like that. How many miles will you actually be doing on it?
I'm 5"10, and can ride the Cbr400 for 2 hours straight without too many problems, but it is a small bike. If you are tall it would get annoying.
Do some test rides on a few bikes, then you'll know what is best for you.
I know it's "hard" to ride a ride a big bike slow, but in reality it's all about your right hand. If you can control this, you could even ride an 04 ZX10r and not have any problems... hehe |
