honda have decide to stick a 180bhp v5 1200cc lump in a vfr!! with there moto gp traction control and the best brakes they have ever made....

This thing looks a beast.

Its got the rc211v aerodynamics, gp style mass centralisation (everything as near to the center of gravity as possible)

look HERE

Its not set to come out till 2006 but when it does it will have the most powerfull motor everseen, there estimating that with a simple race system added your looking at 200bhp

ill start saving now Thumbs Up

I'll believe it when I see it, why make their flagship sportsbike in the style of a VFR? (relegated to the touring role of Honda's fleet). And whats with the Super Blackbird on it, don't like it.

Well think what Honda stands for. The bike being described fits in well with the image they appear to have been portraying recently, therefore this sort of bike would make a better flagship for Honda than for Ducati and maybe even Kawasaki.

Apparently the current Blackbird engine wasn't going to get past emissions controls, etc, so a hyper-efficient V5, tuned for the road, starts to make a lot of sense. Add to that, that the race developed Honda V's have traditionally also been a demonstration of Honda technical abilities, and starts to look more reasonable.

Pho, would you say the Blackbird, Busa and ZX12R's aren't tourers? Toureres make the best super-speed bikes, and vice-versa.

No one said it was in the style of a VFR (whatever that means).
I thought VFR was just the generic name given to all of honda's V-configured bikes.

Do you mean like the VFR750R was never their flagship sportsbike? Or do you mean like how the Blackbird that this will replace is their flagship sportsbike? Wink

Yup! The Fireblade has always had that role. The VFR750R was a special, like the RC45. The Blackbird is a tourer (or Hypersports or whatever), it's a lardy but very fast bike, not Honda's cutting edge in handling and design. The impression I got from this article was it was the new Honda 'beat em all' to replace the fireblade. But if they're gonna make a V5 Blade then forget it, just seems odd they'd mention this before bringing out plans for a V5 Superbike (not lardy tourer/hypersports).

What I'm getting at, is can you see guy's ditching their 2005 R1's for a VFR1200...no.

No but i can see them ditching ZX12's, Busa's and blackbirds for one if it's good.

I'd heard two stories about the Blackbird being updated and a V5 road bike being released, but not them being one and the same.

It would have me interested anyway. If this was a replacement for the Blackbird I'm sure it would permeate to the supersports machines at some point too.

A lot of people that own or fancied a Blade wanted the 04 to be a V5 and were disappointed when it wasn't. Perhaps this is Honda's next two year evolutionary cycle?

It's more likely to have ~200BHP stock and capable of 200mph stock, it's likely to become the big daddy.

Owell, time will tell.

Apparenty the motor made 205 on a dyno but they detuned it. Should be easy to put back. Twisted Evil
Certainly wouldn't sell my Bird to get one though. Service costs are going to be higher and no one can tell me the Bird needs more horses.

No one can tell me it needs the horses that it already has, but you have them (and enjoy them).

oh, so usable, what a fucking waste of effort.

My problem isn't that it's unnecessary, I really couldn't give a toss, but its the amunition it gives to the speed & safety Nazis. This sort of thing will make it far easier for them to justify some kind of power or speed restriction and once a 'safety limit' is in place it'll just get lower and lower every year.

One day the limit will get low enough to affect my fun and it'll be your fault not mine. Thumbs Down
