lots of stuff goin round in my head at the moment, and i need some answers

1) to buy new or not? i loved gettin my new moped, but the depreciation and initial cost is upsetting, id love a new NSR aswell, but they are expensive, how reliable is buying second hand?

2) restriction
surely its a good idea, to get a large bike to start with, and restrict it to 33bhp then when you are qualified you can de restrict it, and have a full bike, or is this a bad idea? whats the insurance like for restricted large bikes?

3)what to look for when buying a 2nd hand bike, whats most important to check so that you dont get ripped, anyone got some major points or a list of stuff to check, how important is mileage? and how old should you not consider buying i.e. is buying a 95' dumb idea?

i know there is a lot there, but as i said before, i know nothing :)

thanks to anyone who responds

kind regards

It would be good if you passed your test beforehand, but, what are the chances of you passing a test when u have never been on a geared bike before? All you can do really is get a "restricted" 125 and dos about on that until you feel confident to take your test

It's very possible to pass your test without owning a bike...many schools offer intensive courses that take you through from CBT to Test...

...but, seeing as you'll only be 17 (that's you, Wild Goose), jumping from a CG125 to a big bike (even restricted to 33bhp) may not be such a good idea...try to appreciate your bike before you think about thrashing it, it'll be better for you and your bike in the long term (you may actually live!)...

Just a personal opinion though...

getting a big bike and restricting it to 33bhp for the two year 'restricted period' sounds like a good idea (I thought about it myself) but the insurance costs will be alot higher and you'll probably want a new bike after two years anyway (I know I will).
When it comes to buying new as opposed to second hand I don't know, but I bought second hand because its all I could afford. I got my Dad to look over mine so I didn't have to think too much about what to look out for.
When it comes to milage its very important, especially on 2 strokes like the NSR as they'll only do about 20k before blowing up (or so I'm told).
