I've had my SV650S for about 4 weeks now and I've covered about 550 miles over about 4 runs. Mainly on motorways and fast A roads.

I've always wore ear plugs since I got the bike and I think my Arai Astro J is a pretty quiet helmet (I know all helmets are pretty noisy). But I still get tinnitus after each run.

The bikes going for it's first service next week and I'm getting a double bubble fitted(Suzuki one, unless anyone can recommend a better one?). I've read a few site saying that the wind noise is caused by the turbulence from the air moving over the fairing and windscreen, so might the DB screen stop my ears rinning so bad? Or is it the earplugs I'm wearing? I used the squashy bullet shaped foam ones(any better recommendations?). They do block out a fair bit of noise so unless they're not sitting in properly (and I don't know it) I can't think of anything else.

Any help would be much appreciated as I dont want the ringing to get any worse or have to get rid of the bike because of it Sad

I tried a number of different types of ear plugs untill i found one that are confortable and worked well for long periods of time. I got mine from;
https://www.safetysupplies.co.uk/trolleyed/4/index.htm
Its the Ride pick and mix, comes with 4 different types, i've found the Laser lite and max lite to be the best for my ears.

I use the gel typed ear plugs and they block out alot of noise. You might want to give them a try. I'm saying it's quiet and my helmet is one of the noisiest, Arai Rx7rr Rolling Eyes .

Hi

I could never get the foam ones to seat properly and landed up buying the moulded ones. Work fine.

All the best

I use Max-lite earplugs, and you do need to squeeze them very tightly and slide them into your ear canal quickly, otherwise they just don't go in.

Some people get on with them, and some people don't I guess. I find them to be fine unless my ears are really dry.

So where can I buy a good set of the moulded ones Kickstart?

And does anyone know what the racer guys use? Surely at the speeds they are going they must use some sort of ear protection?

Or do they just shout really loud when speaking!! Shocked

As you can see from the above posts different plugs suit different people.

Buy a pair of as many different plugs as you can find and try them all to find the is best for you.

If you are really worried you can get custom maid plugs from HERE. Worth noting that these can be very uncomfortable for a few weeks as it takes time to get used to them.

You might find that a double bubble screen will help with noise, but Ive found that it depends very much on your helmet and riding position.
Ive got an AVG and a Suomy extreme.
The AGV is noticibly quieter after fitting the higher screen, but the Suomy (not a quiet helmet at the best of times) is noticably louder.

The taller you are the more the noise increase will be as the upwards airflow is increased with a double bubble.

I tend to use max lite earplugs and dont have a problem with putting them in, but a lot of people dont find them comfy. I dont have anything to compare them to though as Ive never really tried other makes of earplug as ive always found maxlite good enough for me.

Perhaps you should see the doc as you may have a pre exisitng condition, you have been affected unusually quickly?

Hi

We got ours from Green Leopard. Worthwhile money, and far easier to use than foam ones.

All the best

I have Green Leopard ones too. I am happy with them but one point I would make is that the more expensive ones tend to be slightly smaller and sit a little more in the ear.

The problem I have with the Green Leopard ones are they tend to 'knock' on the inside of my helmet (arai) and cause a loud banging on my ear. I sometimes wonder whether it is worth getting some proper hearing specialist ones, but they are a lot more expensive than the Green Leopard ones and you have to have the mould taken first then the earplugs are made from that mould rather than the Green Leopard ones where the mould is the earplug!

Anyway for the price I would recommend Green Leopard and they are much better than the foam ones!

Running my bike (a 4t 125 with Chinese engineered silencing Shocked ) at full whack gives me tinnitus now after about ten minutes, and often less time. It was taking longer and longer to go away each time, by the time it took three days to go, I decided to use earplugs.

Even going at 50-60 for extended periods with them in still causes me to get a bit of a headache after a while. The best ones I've used so far are some foams ones which Hawkeye gave me, acquired from Glastonbury if I remember correctly. Laughing Trouble is, they're supposed to cost £2 per pair.

Take 2 I think they call themselves, pink and yellow things.
