Hey folks,
Anybody see bruce lee spin his bike around in The Bruce Lee story the other day?

Looked like he locked the wheel up at 30 or so, and basically did a 180 turn and came to a stop. Common stunt thing yknow.

Anyway just wondering how to do this. Ive done it accidentally at 90 degrees before but id love to be able to do a 180 degree flick like that.

Does it involve purely rear brake or is it a burnout thing?

hmm.

Dod you notice it was done on a 1969 Bonneville with crossply tyres, in the wet, by a kung fu master...

in a FILM!

Blimey, you'll be trying to ride along the top of a moving train next! Laughing

You want to see real stunt action, search for the streetfighter sunday vid. Cool

I once saw a James Bond film, where JB drove a car on two wheels up a narrow alleyway.

Can anyone tell me how to do this in my 4X4 as I am considering trying filtering in my car. Wink Wink

Loply - I think you are getting a bit of a rough ride here. I used to be able to do it on a mountain bike 180 degrees, so I reckon it should just be rear brake. It helps if you veer right before bringing it in for a left turn skid, as that will help with the mommentum of spinning it in the left direction. Also, you may need to use a bit of front brake so the front acts as a pivot.

I saw someone on a moto do a reall cool 360 - basically it looked like it was 180 of skid, which then moved relatively seemlessly into a 180 burnout in the same direction - result a 360 spin using both brake and burnout. Pretty cool.

I can do this, and used to do it quite often until I got expensive tyres that don't last long in normal conditions let alone sliding around Embarassed...

Problem is, it can turn quite nasty.

Firstly, DON'T even think about doing it on a sports bike, it isn't going to happen if you're not an expert...

Secondly if you're going to do it.. supermoto is the way forward, turning around is much easier Wink

But.. even on a supermoto it will still highside you off if you mess it up (ask ZXR400ER about the time I done it on my WR when out on rideout.. I ended up in a ditch Laughing)

Just be careful and don't even consider it on a sports bike.. (it is possible, just very hard!)

p.s. don't even breath on the front brake.. you'll be on the ground quicker than you can say "arghhh"

Did you not notice it wasn't actually Bruce Lee himself in the movie but a portrayal of him by another actor!

Also the bike in question he was supposed to be riding was set in the early part of the 60's and so that bike shown in the film wasn't even out around then until the year 69 or 70's. Very Happy

The spinning around of the bike will have been for show only and Bruce Lee may have never done that in true life, but it's great looking for entertainment for the TV viewers. That manouvre would have been done by a stuntman or someone good at handling bikes.

I can't see it being that hard, although, I'm not saying its dead easy and that everyone can just go out and do it either! Laughing

I used to be able to do this a piece of piss on a BMX years ago, as I'm sure most kids did. It's a case of confience and practice.

However, as Yams said, on a sportsbike it will probably end up being a shed load more difficult and fooking expensive when it all goes wrong! (Notice I said when, not if...! Laughing )

A lightweight supermoto would probably be ideal, but you'd need a shed load of practice and the right conditions. So, the weather is about right just now for you, in fact, after tonight it might just be perfect! Wink

Why was everyone giving him a hard time at the start of the thread, I can't see this being any different from other people wanting to learn how to wheelie or stoppie. It's just another stunt.

Didn't see the film but what is it? Just basically a back brake skid like you done on your mountain bike?

With regards to the people who imply this is impossible, I saw a guy do it on M&M channel on an R1 when they were reviewing 2004 litre bikes, so its not as difficult as stated. Okay he didnt go 180 but quite far around and enough to look like a stylish way to stop!

Im sure an amateur like myself could manage some kind of attempt at this with a bit of practice. Especially on my bike since its so easy to manhandle - I can hold it with one leg if it falls.

Ill try and video it next weekend and post it here Thumbs Up Razz

I guess to do 180 degrees you will need a lot of speed and practice though.

Just a wild stab in the dark here... Do you think that just might have something to do with the fact that he died many years before the film was made ?

Uh it's a bit obvious that Bruce Lee himself doesn't star in the story of his own life+death.

No it was Jason Scott Lee, who is no relation in any way to Bruce Lee.

Brandon Lee is also dead and has been for a few years now. He died strangely a few weeks or more after officially requesting the re-opening of the investigation into his Father's death !

Do you realise how many people are called 'Lee' and the people of Chinese decent are the biggest known population in the world. So that's a lot of Lee ...... !

I used to do it on my derbi, on occasion, problem is you have to hold on the back long enough so that you are going backwards at the right speed and direction, otherwise it is like a highside. I felt it go a couple of times but didnt come off.

One thing you do find, is quite often you just end up doing a parallel skid, as in the back traves forward but about two feet to the right of left of the front wheel. Thats cos you naturally try and control it.
