the bike is a 2002 NSR125R1 and its restricted....but i want to derestrict it...
has any one already done this and can offer advice/hints/tips
before i get stuck in?
any help or general advice about this bike is greatfully received as ive currently got a 4stroke 125 so the nsr is going to be completely different i expect

Tip: Save your money, use it for a year, do full test, get bigger bike that goes faster without the need to get the spanners out.

have passed test,
have already got a 125,
nsr is a (once derestricted) faster quicker 125.
insurance is taking the micky at the moment as im 17, had my full license a week and have no no claim bonus.(thank you dozy corsa driver )
so when i say i want to insure a gpz500 they tell me £6000 tpft!
i say CBR400RR and they laugh and put the fone down...I kid you not!
it takes the buscuit. so its 125 till september when...;
ill have a years no claims bonus(hopefully if the corsas keep out my way) be 18 and will have had my license 6 months...also that allows for current policy to expire.
so how do i derestrict the nsr....common someone spill the beans ....
please?

Where do you live for insurance like that? You should be looking at 33bhp commuter machines that will still be quicker than your NSR.
Ring round more insurance companies, there are a LOT of them out there and prices vary wildly.
If you've passed your test, get a bigger bike, it's cheaper in the long term.
There are guys on here with bigger bikes that are paying nowhere near that on insurance, you ought to look around a bit more. Selling your NSR and your 4T125 should get you a pretty good ER-5 or something. ____________________ Colin McRae MBE 1968 - 2007 RIP

in an ideal world i could do this,
but my current insurance brokers wont allow me to swap my policy to anything bigger than a 125.
rather that buy a bigger bike and cancel my policy it made more financial sense to buy a different 125 (for a bit of varyation) and let the policy run its course till septmeber, then hopefully pick up a nicer faster option.
plus there is the 'ahhh 2stroke' smell i get every time i start the nsr up.
