I was pottering around a localish bike dealers yesterday and saw a bike for sale that interested me. I am not interested in buying it, but I hadn't seen one before and it was being sold as being a very rare bike.

It was a Honda 750 with 'Britain' on the panels. ie a Honda Britain.
It wasn't in immaculate condition and I didn't get a look at the year (looked late seventies, early eighties ish), but it had about 6000 miles on the clock.

It was being sold as "Rare as rocking horse sh*t" and had a price on it, a fiver short of THREE GRAND!

What is the background to this machine? I think there was a Team Honda Britain for the TT's but can someone shed light on this?

Nah, it had a big plastic fairing on it and looked like an early sportsbike.
It was mostly white and had red and blue graphics, sorry I cannot be more specific.
I've had a google and havn't found any pics ...yet.

If its so rare then i'd be asking how exactly your suppoed to find parts? unless it shares common parts from say the cb500 e.t.c. in which case its not all that special is it Razz

If it was built by hrc then many parts will have been marked by the engineer that fitted each part.

any of these?

Ah the Honda Britain 750, built around 1977-8 to commemorate Phil Reads victories who used to be a rider for Honda in the 70's.

Its basically a CB750 with a full fairing to resemble Phil Read's machine and a tuned engine with dual disc brakes. Basically it was the GSXR750 of its day! Smile

Takes me back, I used to have a Honda 750 F1 which was a similar bike but without that dustbin fairing. It was a fairly horrible Yellow colour and used vast quantities of oil. It took me to the South of France and back twice though...(drifts off into old faded memories...)
