Has it been lying for any amount of time? Been exposed to tempratures? Need more details on the bike: 2stroke or 4 stroke engine? Sounds like you got yourself a seized piston mate Thumbs Down

I'd not say a siezed piston right off, they won't tend to sieze when its cold unless they're properly wedged in when hot. I'd suggest that you've got some jammed gear teeth in the mechanism somewhere, or perhaps something (collapsed bearing perhaps) stuck in it somewhere.

Just my inkling of an idea.

My brother had a problem a little like this with his Sym Jet 100. I think a valve in the oil pump had gone dodgy and was dribbling litres of oil into the crankcase, resulting in something similar to a fluid lock. I believe (him being him) he managed to overwhelm it with brute force, and several minutes kicking later, the thing finally started. With enough ragging the problem disappeared.

I'd put money on it not being seized. I've had this problem when I first got my moped. Sounds like the kickstart has got itself in a bit of a mess, Take the crank case of and you'll see if theres a problem then.
But it doesn't explain it not starting however it's been so cold out that might be the cause.

STOP!!! I had the same problem last week as seen on post in this forum. Mad I had to kick start my bike as the immobiliser had drained my battery, started first time then stopped. I then re kick started it a few time before starting. on the third fourth time my kick start jammed.

I then remove the clutch/variator casing to find that the variator flywheel had worn all the spines on my crankshaft. And the variator wheel had come off.

All I say is don’t keep try the kick-start. You could do more damage. I am not saying that this has happened to you either. Just check by removing the 10 bolts and see that the belt, clutch and vairiator are ok. Also there is a cone shaped gear that turns when you use the kick-start this could also be dislodged and may need replacing. It’s a 10min job to check but unfortunately it s cost me £480.00. to fix tas the crankshaft had to be replaced and with all the parts and labour it turned out to be an expensive kick-start. Let me know hoe you get on.

Shocked Shocked Shocked £480

I had a full top end AND bottom end rebuild and it was only £450. Was your crank shaft made of platinum or somthing Shocked

Anyway, Its probably just a jammed/dislodged tooth on the kickstart gear, like speedfight says ^ Its a 10 minute job, Whip the tranny caseing off and just check. I have to push my kickstart down a few teeth slowley before I kick hard as the first 3 teeth are screwed, and if I kick from the top it jams up...

Yes £480.00 Embarassed

The Cranksshaft was £175.00 and the new Variator Pulley was £36 Plus gaskets and oil seals then the rest was labour for taking engine out then fixing it and then putting enigne in. Live in the sticks a bit and found it hard for someone to beat the price. Must admit tho. I did tell a lie. Embarassed The pricing was from a peugrot dealer and I did purchase the crankshaft myself as I found an assy one for £115 delivered. But in total the whole job was not cheap. I suppose if you did it yourself then your laughing as you save loadsa money on Labour. But I not that confident yet! Only had bike three month and costing me shit loads already. Shocked I suppose that the fun of scootering and biking.

Dont panic tho as you may not have the same problem - Binge and I recon you should fist take the case off (ten bolts thats all) just slide it off and check to see anything out of palce. Straigth away you will see if there any wrong or not right) Good starting point. Let me know if how you get on. Smile

I feel Sick and Embarassed All that money spent and I could have bought new’ish engine for less than that. Lesson learnt.

Still feel sick though and Embarassed The only other point is that I did not mention is that I have recently had new cylinder and barrel fitted as that look like it was about to seize, so did not want to loose money that I had already invested on that. Is there anything else that may go wrong that cost big money?

Work has been done in the last month.
New Clutch Polini
New Variator Malossi
New Kevlar Belt
New Cylinder and Barrell
New Exhaust
Inc. Gaskets where required.

Would you consider this a engine rebuild

I do now have the most expensive speedfight on the road Very Happy and I bet still only does 55mph. Not yet got the bike back. Somebody somewhere is having a laugh on my expense. Laughing

it never Rain it poors

Here's a breaker mentioning that they are breaking your make of speedfight, but they don't describe what year it is.

Peugeot has really got the oem spare parts market tied up for mopeds.

It means your bill at the end is going to jump ! Confused

He will be charging for more time spent trying to find out what's causing the problem and maybe one or more parts are now needing replaced than what was originally anticipated which could cost you more !
