Hi, finally got the bike started. Thanks to Kickstart as usual. Thumbs Up Only thing I notice now is that there's an unhealthy amount of smoke from what appears to be burning oil coming out the exhaust. It was fine before I stopped using it for the winter 3 months ago. Could it possibly be that it needs a good run to clear anything out? Or have the piston rings finally had it? I'm reluctant to go for a proper run as I haven't fixed the rear brake yet.

Yes, give it a good run as it should clear up after travelling 5 - 10 miles. Remember nothing has moved through the engine & exhaust for 3 months and the bike is stone cold and so therefore there will be moisture, etc, to burn off with the heat ! If the fuel tank is low then you'll need to fill the tank up with fresh fuel because that old fuel can sometimes become poor in giving performance to the bike.

Add some Redex carb/fuel cleaner with a full tank of fuel to help clean the internals out after such a long period of time of sitting around.

I thought this bike was drinking lots of oil a while back?

Anyway, if its healthy then it could just have gummed up piston rings, common enough problem. A good hot run should free them off. Make sure theres enough oil in the engine first, and it might use a little in the run.

Cool, I'll give it a good run first then and see how it is. Since I have got it serviced, it didn't seem to be drinking any oil anymore. I done about 1000 miles without it losing a drop. As before it was emptying after 3000 miles.
