Well, Hubby has just brought a nice shiny new race can for his ZX6 and now he tells me it needs dyno jetting. He just called Big CC in Wokingham and they want £250 to Dyno it. Does anyone know of any more reasonable priced garages in the Bracknell or surrounding areas? Or is this going to be one damn expensive can! Shocked

Is he getting it Dyno-Jet'd purely cause of the can?

I've had no problems just sticking a can on (although I will get it up jetted with a K&N at a later date). Bike ran fine straight from the off. It looks and sounds better than the standard one which is why I got it but I doubt the bike is putting out any more hp.

Can't help with a cheap garage, soz.

Needs dyno jetted? Thinking

Surely he can be the judge of that by putting the exhaust on and seeing what he thinks himself...Confused

£250 would get me 25 hours of dyno time at road and track dyno.

Not too far from you, but i'm not sure what prices he would charge you and what work it would need, as in just rejetting or a proper dynojet kit. Or is it FI?

Give him a bell.

He has and he says at about a ton the bike holds back alot and she pops and farts getting there. It was fine on the standard can so he says it must be the race can.
Sorry, Im not mechanically minded whatsoever so I say it in laymens terms Laughing
And I did tell him just not to do over a ton but boys will be boys Rolling Eyes

What kind of can did he fit?

I've never had that happen with me, feels more responsive but that could just be down to the added noise....

I was told I'd need to get the bike jetted if I got a can fitted but just ran it and it was fine.

I think he can get the work done cheaper than that though, seems pricey.

Get him to shop around. £250 is an awwfy lot!!

Whilst he's at it, he may as well get a k&n air filter before getting it set up correctly. As no doubt he'll want one in the future.

I'm not overly sure of what you refer to as dyno jetting but is it buying a dynojet stage 1 kit and getting the garage to fit it and get it running sweet? I think it's about £95 for the kit is it not?

I presume the £250 is for the whole set up and kit (and probably K&N), not just the dyno time?

Well hes just called me and said he has spoken to Inifinity and they have told him to put the standard can back on as its not worth it having the race can as it will never run right. Confused
Damn waste of money. Anyone want to buy a brand new Viper can Laughing

I too am looking into getting the bike set up on a dyno, with free flow filter (K&N) and stage 1 jet kit. I have the can on the way already, just cant decide whether I should bother getting it all set up. It'll cost a good £140 for the filter and box of jets, but no idea what it'll cost for setting the lot up perfectly on the dyno. Its a lot of money, but I suppose it's better to pay for the bike to run perfectly and exploiting a little more power than dropping a valve from running lean! Laughing

I got an e-mail back from Scorpion, they say their cans are designed for stock carburation settings. I just hope thats true, but will have to wait and see when the can is on the bike. On a similar note, does anyone know of any dynos in the North East? I've found one which is near York, but thats a bit too far.

My can must have been set to run on stock settings too then as it's been fine since it was fitted.

£250!

I wouldn't pay £250 if Carol Vorderman was gonna run it, naked!
Well maybe I might Wink

Been to Dean Ashtons in Hull today. Absolutley spot on, really good blokes.

FZR but out 84.5bhp with a Micron Can and ran to 131mph. Not bad for a £600 15 yr old hack!

Rang yesterday and they had it booked in first thing this morning.

Oh and it only cost £20

Hi

Dynojet kit is around £100 (ZX6R one is £106 in the Demon Tweeks catalogue), and I think the Bandit stage 3 kit was ~£130. There can be a fair amount of faffing round to fit one (for example on the Bandit one of the jobs was to drill out the holes on the carb slides so the slides react differently). Charging you £150 for a fair amount of labour and dyno time is not too bad. If that includes a £50 K&N filter then you are well away.

All the best

Keith

I'd guess and say £250 includes the Dynojet kit, installation and Dynorun (Maybe even a K&N Filter)

Dont expect much power but they will deffo improve the power curve.

He can just do it himself, DynoJet give recommended settings (I expect the dyno guy will just use those base settings), Then he can pop it down to them and have a Dynorun if he wants to be sure it's running fine, If it's not then ask the Dyno guy what his suggestion settings are, If he's anygood (Which you'd hope he would be) he'll tell you what needs to be adjusted... Should save a good £100.

I had a K&N air filter, race spark plugs, TRE ignition retard illiminator chip and scorpion race can added to my TL1000R and it was obvious it needed a power commander and a good tuning, it was idling at 3000rpm!

As for just adding a can, don't bother with a dyno jet power commander and tuning, just get a local garage to 'Remap' your ECU, much cheaper and should do the job.

One other thing, a Viper can is an off the shelf item that will fit most Kawasakis, or most suzuki's, etc, it's not specifically tuned to any bike, so it might still reduce power, even after the tune-up! That would be a waste of money!

If he really wants a race can without sacrificing power/speed, then flog the Viper and get something like a Micron, Akropovic or Scorpion can. That should do it, again, with a remapped ECU.

If you have a laptop, you might be able to find a modified map on the internet and tune it your self! (depending on the bikes age, I assume it's a new one?!)

I'd assume if they are needing a Dyno JET then it's probably a carb'd bike..

Hmmm, not too sure then.

Either way though, I would not mention to a garage that you think it needs dyno jetting, as they will assume it does and go for it. (read - make more money from it)

He could try adding a better air filter, like a K&N, even if he takes the can off, it will still improve the bike! It might just sort out the exhaust problem too! a less expensive way of finding out! Thumbs Up

Almost certainly not possible. Virually no bike ECUs are capable of this (Triumph ones are) which is why we have to put up with the power commander bodge unit.

A Power Commander would probably be over £250 before fitting or setting up.

All the best

Arh, didn't realise this, I got a TL-R and just about everything can be changed via my laptop! I assumed all ECU's were the same?!

Hi

If you can get at the maps in the ECU and reprogram them then there is no need to go near a Power Commander really.

All the best
