hey guys

im looking at possibly getting a zzr600

i know they are not the prettiest of bikes but still they have good performance of 150mph+,good mpg by all accounts and it has a fuel gauge, lol

basically im after something that i can rack the miles up on but with plenty of appeal to have fun with at the weekends,

whats your opinions?

and if not a zzr what do you think would be suitable?

From what I've ehard, you can't go wrong with a zzr. Like your favourite arm chair, its stupidly comfortable and was the fastest 600 at one point in the 90's - which pretty much means it'll be as fast as you need it to be.

They rack up huge miles and are relatively cheap.

So long as you're not expecting the latest 600, you can't go wrong with one, can you? (all info/opinions based on a friend having one)

Wouldn't take too much notice of the top speed on a ZZR 600. Sure they'11 do 150 but it's a white knuckle 150.
You gotta be carefull with old ones too. The redline is at 16,000 RPM so many have been hammered to get the best out of them. Having said that the engine is all but bullet proof. More of a small tourer than a scratcher though.

I agree with Zoffo. Everything I read about them said they'd do in the region of 150, but a black and white figure doesn't tell you everything - how does it do getting to that speed? What's it like at that speed? etc. It's a bit like a back-to-back review I remember reading on the RF600. They rode the RF first and said it was great. They then rode another 600 (CBR, ZX6, something like that) and then went back and said the RF wasn't that good after all.

I've never ridden a ZZR600, I rode a ZZR250 and it put me off all ZZRs for life Laughing

I,ve had my 1993 ZZR600 E1 (first ram air model) since October, bascily one of the best bikes l,ve had. Brought mine for £800 with 45,000 on the clock and a micron 4-into-1 full exhaust system, was a cheap bike due to its stevey wonder paint job.

Very conformable, loads of power for a 600 gets to 100+ very quickly, much bigger in size than a CBR/R6/GSXR etc, does about 120-160 miles on a full tank.

Never had any trouble with mine and hopefully will be taking it to Germany in the summer.

well im on abit of a budget too im afraid,i have around £1350 maximum to spend so i know i could prob get a late 90's model zzr.

i could get a cbr6 of around early 90's plate but so many of them have very high mileage,do they take the miles well?

the last bike i had was a full power zxr400,i really needed a change as i really am racking up the miles.

maybe not alot to some of you but i did 5k (miles) in 5 and half months on the zxr and its still only done 18k now and its a 89,lol

A bloody good bike for the money. My mate sold his Blackbird and bought one (he couldn't handle the big power Embarassed ) i rode it and found it to be quite a brisk little bike and good value for money, look at its competition and nothing is as refined or as quick for the money you have.........Keep it clean and service the brakes regularly and it will be as faithfull as a Labrador to its master.

If you get one, also look into getting some braided brake lines and up-rated pads as the standard stoppers are not really up to much. Apart from that, I've heard nothing bad about them.

I currently ride a zzr400. The bike is dull at low rpms. Sometimes if you open the throttle you feel like the engine is lagging, just like turbo lag. However, it's very comfrotable for touring and is good for an everyday bike. But My 400 is deffinetly not a fun bike for the weekend. Maybe it's because it's a 400 I don't know. I ride a cbr600f4i sport for the weekend Wink much more fun for the weekend. The zzr is also HEAVY.
So in my opinion..
The ups : comfort, mpg, brakes, not too slow, and handling is good.
The downs: looks, not enough bhp, on the cbr the wind wouldnt bother me as much, ugly sound, not a bike you would show off with.

you wont see 150 on them though

he is 6 foot 4 and a big lad so to speak and can chuck it round bends like someone on a gsxr600

i was looking at buying one in july but have decided on a thundercat

hubby had a zzr600 as a first bike.. he says its a heavy bike but once your use to it ,its great fun.. he also had to take centre stand off as it kept hitting the ground on left hand bends Very Happy. also had to upgrade the brakes as they're not to hot standard..

im 6,3 m8 so a fairly tall guy aswell......

im going to view a 93 cbr6 2m so i will see what they are like comfort wise.

they are a little more sportier than the zzr and by all the reviews i have seen are more than of capable of being a decent commuter,

havnt found out if it has a fuel gauge or even a warning light though, can anyone confirm or deny the cbr has one?

cheers

goldy
