Hello,
I have been told that, on a speedfight 2 50cc A/C, when the variator nut is removed to take out the variator you have to replace the nut, and when the variator is opened you have to replace the O-ring. I am just wandering if anybody else who carried this out changed these or just re-used them?

I don't know who told you that but I wouldn't hold any other mechanical advice from them in high regard. My variators come off over 20 times and I've got the same nut on it.

I would say that this information had come from either a peugeot dealer or the Haynes manual, as both say you have to replace both the O ring's, Gaskets and Nuts. Whether you do or not is up to you.

Did anybody put loctite on the nut or does it stay on on its own?

I use loctite on all my bolts, but before I didn't use it and it was fine. Just make sure you use the right torque settings when doing it up regardless of if you use loctite..

The O-rings are only to hold the variator grease in, and they say replace them only to cover their own backs incase any grease makes it onto the belt etc.

I personally completely clean all the grease out of the roller cage and ditch the O-ring, both arn't really needed and Speedfights are the only auto I've ever seen that use it, even the other Peugeot engines like the Jet Force's don't.

As for replacing the nut, I've never done it, and not many mechanics/dealers will do it I'd imagine, but if it starts getting worn it might be worth replacing before it gets to rounded to take off.

I take my variator off at least once a month to check rollers and clean the crap off the belt and Ive never changed the nut.

Aslong as its tight, it will be ok.

I also dont know why they grease up the speedfight variators. My 50cc wasnt greased, but my 100cc was. I think they have stoped greasing them on the recent models. But the rollers which come stock in the speedfight will stick of the variator isnt greased. But nah, I wouldnt bother changing the nut unles its Shag'd
