i went to look at a zxr yesterday and dont know whether to part with my cash.

its a 1997 with only 6000miles, race paint sceme and a race pipe. scratches down one side where it was dropped. it seems to me that it has been thrashed considering the age and little miles. £3200

another thing was they offered me £1500-£1600 for my aprilia which i got for £2400 about three months ago. i would expect £1800 for it.

does it seem like an ok deal?

cheers for any advice.

I got my 89 ZXR for £450, I wouldn't really consider paying in excess of 3k for a damaged one like that, and its been down the road before too if its been resprayed once. What condition is your RS in?

Edit: And I swear I've seen ZXR 03 models going for 3500 in mint condition too

I would expect that in a shop with warranty, There's loads of mint 400's for much lower.

I got a L2 with roughly the same milage for £1000. Still needs a little work though. Valve clearances need doing and I want the brakes serviced.

£1600 should get a near mint older model like the L1, L2, L3 ('91, '92, '93).

£3200 for a dropped '97 is too much. Don't do it. Thumbs Up

Either that bike hasn't been ridden that much or the mileage clock has been replaced at some point Question

I paid 3500 for a L9 2001 plate so 3200 for a 97 plate is abit steep.

Screw going to a dealer, sell it privately for goodness sake. 83.165% of dealers give you crappy part exchange offers.

Thats very dear for the age and condition.
Guy I work with paid £3200 for an 03 plate with only 1500 miles on the clock. Totally standard too.....

Shop around if you really want a ZXR...

Mr motorbiker, check this one out 1999 with 12000 on the clock, look pretty nice to me. Phone numbers attached too as he is prepared to sell off Ebay. Around £1200 with no reserve and just over a day to go till the auction close.

For the record, I got my 1998 ZX9R for £2,400 with 15K on the clock, so I would say that £3,200 was pushing it.

Agreed, but you can get insured on the ZX9R... anyone under 21 can't!

400 prices are artificially high because of the young person aspect, 33bhp and insurance really - they always have been.

i just viewed another...

2001 £3300,11000miles, he offered me a fair £1800 for my aprilia so its looking hopefull. its in pretty good condition.

the bike was black so does that mean its been resrayed at some point or did it come like that. it had a MPH speedo so i presume its a UK bike. it had some small purple decals "zxr" "400".

i would buy privatley but my dad wants the warranty from a shop.

what do u reckon?

Be careful with warranty for used stuff.
It may be only 90 days and really not cover anything of any value as a good trick is to call any failure a consumable part.

If you can get anything better then all well and good.

First thoughts are if you're really interested ask for a test ride to see how it handles. Do they know why it was resprayed? Can you contact the previous owner to ask via the V5 info? Check frame etc. for if it's been down the road and knock 10-15% off the asking price and offer them that, with the full £1800 for yours of course Smile

Just some thoughts, the decision is all yours in the end - scary isn't it Wink Thumbs Up
