hi, im 15 just now 16 in july, and got a ped - its a Gilera Runner 50 SP, and is a 1998, (pearl blue/purple and gloss black) its standard (for now ). Ive ridden off road since i was 10 and ive got a fair knowledge of bikes, ive been on the back of a bike many times and i think ive got the basic gist of things.

Was wondering how much insurance would be, and how much the test would be aswell, (thought id try here first to get a general idea of prices) and im going to phone about

To get an idea of how much insurance will be get yourself an online quote from somewhere like www.clickquote.com , rememeber it'll be cheaper over the phone with lots of phoning around.

The theory test costs £20.50 and the practical test costs £51 plus whatever training you need. The actual operating the bike is the easy bit, you need to get used to riding on the roads.

It's hard to recommend an insurance company, as what's good for one person may not be so good for others, I'm with motorcycledirect.co.uk (got a hayabusa insured with them for £840), your best bet is just to ring as many as possible, then try and play them off against each other.

You'll only need a CBT in the way of tests to ride your 'ped.

That's ~£100 including a day's bike hire.

Lexham Insurance specialise in Piaggio / Gilera, they WILL be the cheapest for 99% of younger riders, they quoted half the price of anyone else for my old Runner.
