Hi,

Riding home from college today (only 2nd proper ride in 3 months since hand injury so I was loving every minute of it) passed a few cars coming out of Perth - saw 2 bikes ahead though 'cool, some company on the ride home'.

Get closer and it's 2 Police bikes, think 'shit, I'm gonna have to tag along behind these guys at 60mph all the way'.

Not so my friend!

Once we got onto the open road they both nailed it - so I thought 'fuck it, they won't do anything, I'm riding same speed as them and they would have no evidence I was over the limit'.

So I cracked it open too. Caught up with them as they slowed to go throught the next wee town.

Then off again! This time I was riding with them - on to a 1.5 mile piece of straight road and we were easily hitting about 90mph (well, their bikes getting there slightly quicker than mine!!!).

I thought 'this is too sureal, speeding along riding with 2 bike cops'.

It was a good lesson too, riding behind them. They ride so smoothly - no effort in riding those Pan Euros round the twisty roads at all, mean while I'm hanging off trying to haul my great lump around the bends!!! Laughing I was watching their corner lines, good to see how they use the width of the road, very interesting.

So, to those 2 Cops - thanks for letting me tag along!

Don't underestimate the mid range grunt of a pan euro. Heavy they may be, but its still a 1200 Honda lump in there which is capable of giving quite a few sportsbike rides a supprise Laughing
I've also noticed that they stop very quickly too, do doubt due to some fancy ABS Wink

We saw one doing a track day at oulton, the 1000's had to get by him using their top speed, the 600's really struggled to get by and he did prety well forhimself in the twisties. Wouldnt be supprised if it were a police rider.

Probably got a rear facing speed camera pointing at you...

Ticket in the post!! Laughing

Not all cops are bad, me and 3 other car drivers got a wag of the finger and told to slow down by traffic cops on the M74 a few weeks back. If it was just me, then I'm sure I would have got a ticket.

I remember a pal of mine saying a few years ago down in England returning from a bike show and they decided to tag along behind these 9 other riders in all their sports gear and fancy bikes going at a reasonably good speed along the road. Low & behold a police car pulls them all over and the coppers asks each and everyone of them to stand in a straight line and ask them to produce, if they can, identification but to my friend's surprise they were all off duty coppers out for the day. when it got to them to show their licence the coppers gave up and waved everybody on and said "Have a nice day and take it easy from now on". Cool

The coppers can get away almost anything!

I know what you mean I've seen bike cops bombing it along the road and then to see them stopped at a cafe having a meal. Cool

Yeh, i thought i was going to get pulled by one, so turned down some side road to double check, and then bam he was past me, easily doubling the speed limit within about 20 metres.

To be fair, they seem to hoon everywhere.

You have to watch out in the Highlands because there's is now plain clothes bike cops on superbikes that suddenly come up behind and flash their blue lights embedded in their front fairing gesturing you to pull over. I know this because I was talking this chick one time originally from Fort William she got caught doing 160mph in the Highlands and apparently let her go - Women they get away with everything by flickering their eye lashes and showing a bit of cleavage! Shocked

Police riders are very good, if you can find a copy of the police riders handbook pick it up. My uncle had a copy that he lent to my dad, now in my posesion. It is really good, tells you alot about positioning state of mind etc. This book is what alot of the advanced riding courses are based upon.

Is that pic for real Colin?

Looks fake to me.

I mean, 'Police Blade'? FFS! Laughing

And where would the lights be.... and the radio equipment.... and somewhere to store all their paperwork....

Hmmm Thinking

Yup, pic is for real. Not completely sure if it was for promotional purposes only or if they have a Blade or 2!

I've seen a pic on the K4 Gixxer 1000 in police livery. It was a silver bike, not white. Someone might have the picture. Sure it was on display at the Bike Show last November.

The official picture shows they have Pan Euros (4xSt1100+1xST1300)
https://www.durham.police.uk/images/special/motorcycle_section.jpg

The pic itself is from Honda's own site, so I'd say yes, it's genuine. As in these other pics:
https://www.ukemergency6.f9.co.uk/dsc06648t.jpg and https://www.ukemergency6.f9.co.uk/dsc06647t.jpg

Durham also has (or has had) a VTR:

I followed a police biker about 30 miles home once. Got up to about 100mph on a dual carrageway. I just made sure I kept a good distance behind him so he had no reason to stop me.

I like the police sp1. I might get mine sprayed......

Leaned over further than I'd take a Pan Euro!!! Laughing

It's the way they just made it look so graceful and elegant. Guess that's years of experience and the best training for you though.

They'd give some sportsbike riders a bloody good run for your money anyway, that's for sure.

I couldn't even see his feet moving when he was changing gear Shocked

I've ridden with a Police rider, and he was awesome! he had a big heavy Yamaha FJR1300 tourer (Yamaha equivalent of a Pan european), and I just could not get near him on my CBR1000f, which in his words would "whip the ass off his FJR"

Awesome riding Cool
