I have the chance to go to Ron Haslam racing this year.
https://www.haslamraceschool.com/

I have never been on a track before, do you think it's a good place to start? Has anyone been there or is anyone else going?
What's donnington park like?

Sorry for all the questions, but this is going to be a new experience for me.

Take a look at this:

Honda Ron Haslam Race School.

It will be one of your most enjoyable memories once done!

They'll go at the pace you want to, no pressure, no worries from the fast lads, and no worries about crashing, your alot less likely to crash on this track day than anyother or even than riding on the road!

Book it and enjoy! Cool

Personally I think a normal trackday would be a better place to start.

That way you pay less to learn the basics of track riding that you would do anyway, then make more use of the instructors when you've got a better idea of what you need to improve.

I'm sure G and Bendy and a number of other people will agree with me on this but...

I would say that its pretty pointless to do a race school until you have had some track experience on your own. I would say that you need to do at least one trackday in the novice group where you can feel what it is like to ride on track before having to concentrate on that *and* instruction.

I would rather have track tuition now that the feeling of riding on track is not completely alien to me, rather than having to concentrate on so many thigs at once (trying to take the tuition onboard and work outr where the track goes, and manage your fear and worry about how fast the track feels etc etc etc)

Do at least one trackday first and then do the race school. You will feel the benefit more than going into the race school 'blind' IMO.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I'd never been on track before, wasn't the fastest rider on the road, a bit unconfident on unknown roads and I really enjoyed it.

Common misbelief about the 'Instruction' side of things - there aren't any. No headphones and microphones in the helmet, no arm signals or pointing, just good old fashioned follow the leader. And as you get better, try and keep up with the leader!

They give you some pointers and tips on what you need to be doing in between sessions, based on what they think YOU need to do. Not loads of things, it might just be to 'easy up on the brakes alitlle'! Embarassed

It's really relaxed and very enjoyable, and you get to test ride the CBR600RR! Thumbs Up

most track days have a handful of club racers on hand for one to one instruction anyway

and it doesn't cost anything on top of the price of the day

I have done the Ron Haslam track school. It was very good fun but I thought it was expensive and I only had 3 15 minute sessions on track for £235. Some people crashed on the first session and that's the end of the day for them.
The instruction was good and very helpful for an inexperienced person.
Depending on what your bike is it may be worth it going with them.

Donnington is ace!

I have done 3 trackdays there now and I love it, cos it's fast, wide and flowing (with the exception of the Melbourne loop, which needs rethinking IMHO)

I would say to do a trackday yourself first and then go for the Ron Haslam day, there are plenty of novice only/friendly trackdays about if you have a look for them.
