PostPosted: 20:41 - 09 Mar 2005    Post subject: Ant + Dec challenge Reply with quote

Just found out that Ant and Dec were a couple of miles away from my house at RAF Sealand today.

They were learning to jump etc with the white helmets motorcycle display team.

If i'd known that, I would have popped down for a look.

It's on TV on Saturday if anyone is interested. Thumbs Up

From local rag:

"ANT AND DEC JOIN THE DAREDEVILS

GEORDIE duo Ant and Dec were donning their leathers today to train with a world famous stunt bike team at RAF Sealand.

The pair were training to ride with the daredevil stunt team the Royal Corps of Signals White Helmets in Deeside today as part of their Saturday Night Takeaway show.
Each week the boys, real names Declan Donnelly and Anthony McPartlin, compete against each other in a special task, and the latest one is to ride with the 30-strong White Helmets team.
They were out filming at RAF Sealand yesterday and today with the Dorset-based team, who today confirmed they were helping the pair with their task.
A spokesman for the White Helmets said: “We are in Deeside at the moment, filming for Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
“We have been at RAF Sealand for two days, and filming should be completed by today.”
Viewers this week will see ex-royal butler Paul Burrell, who lives near Wrexham, duped by the comedy pair.
Using clever disguises Ant and Dec conned Paul into going along with an elaborate hoax."

When you jump, you should blip the throttle when your about to land, it makes the front wheel raise up so you land on the back wheel... he didn't blip the throttle, if you noticed, the front dived.

Combination of too slow speed and no blipping.

I jumped higher than that on road wheels (supermoto) and one time didn't blip the throttle enough and landed on the front wheel Laughing it's a scary way to land (i didnt fall off tho) and it looked like he went down pretty hard.

Good on them for tring though Thumbs Up

Saw him fall off and that was about it, didn't find out how badly he hurt his wrist. i just hope that he gets the balls to do it again, i thought it was a bit weak them saying that the taller ones attempt was cancelled! he should have shown the little one how to do it! Laughing

I know you've done this a hell of a lot more than I have, but you mean just before you take off, surely? Will blipping the throttle when neither wheel is on the ground do very much?

Get the bike to lift the front as it leaves the ground so that the bike stays parallel with the ramp rather than the front just going straight down when it leaves the ramp.

hit the nail on the head there, but what is the point of doing these "life threating" stunts if at the end of the day someone won't let them go ahead with it if there is a chance someone could get hurt! seems like a very big contridiction. Confused

When in the air you'll be suprised.

Throttle and the front wheel will rise.

Brake (rear) and the front wheel will drop.

This is how Freestyle MXers do their tricks, back flips etc, it's all in the throttle/brake use.

I've got an Radio controlled monster truck, and I've been trying to backflip it (havent actually done it yet lol) to do it, you go up the ramp at a moderate speed then hit the throttle just as you leave the ramp, which send it into a backflip. If I go off the ramp at a set speed, and give it a bit of gas whilst it's in the air (just as it starts falling back to earth!) then the truck will land smoothly on it's wheels! (or on it's roof if I'm trying to flip it Laughing)

Same with a bike. It's all to do with the rotation of the rear wheel making the front or rear rise or drop.

If that makes sense Smile

If you gas it just as you're leaving the ramp you'll probably find your front wheel shooting up, scary way to jump Laughing

Think people like Riderofthestorm will know more as he can do pretty big jumps, I've only jumped on SM wheels.. want to try something a bit higher later this year, I'm sure the wheels can take it Twisted Evil

haha Laughing

Rof the storm, please come give your professional opinion Crying or Very sad Laughing

The jumps they were doing werent exactly big. I've got more air off a bump in the road Laughing (not really, just exagerating Wink ) to jump those ramps, you don't need to blip before take off (or even in the air to be honest) but you do need to keep a steady moderate speed, he didn't Laughing

Ooo,..I felt for Dec..that tumble would have shaken him up Shocked
Especially so early on in his bike riding days.

I hope he has been bitten by the bikey bug and does continue to some degree....
I think not however.

Ant seemed to have it all pretty much under control.

Blipping the throttle to bring the front wheel up just b4 landing?
How could you possibly time that on the jump they were doing.
Lucky if they were in the air for a fraction of a second.
the pros deffo said when jumping he should give it extra throttle just b4 take off (extra power at the back to make the front light as opposed to constant throttle and just dropping off the ramp front wheel first, like off a kerb).

...can't help feeling sorry for the small one - it was a nasty tumble - but he put on a brave face for the camera. The taller one should have went ahead and done it though ...
