Well done on the theory test and the CBT. I have only just started riding myself so can't really give any advice apart from the fact that the R6 is an absoloutely gorgeous bike! I want one now............ Very Happy

Given the wrong inexperienced and new owner though it is also a very fast death trap...

I went from DAS to an RR. It depends on the indivdual as to whether a sports 600 is a good first bike. Can you trust yourself to build up the speed and confidence slowly? If you can then they are fine as first bikes - they are very easy to ride with good stopping power. Just don't go mad.

That is also true. It really is down to the individual - not the bike.

You have just got to be careful havn't you. You could easily kill yourself on a 125cc bike if you ride it like an idiot! Embarassed While we are talking about nice bikes I thought i would slip in a comment about the new Triumph Sprint ST featured in this months Ride magazine: its f**kin beautiful! God I hope my lottery numbers come up this week............. Thumbs Up

I would say that if you want to make use of a fast bike, don't get one as a first bike Smile.

Have you got a bike at the moment? If you can afford either of those bikes, I would look at getting a cheap 125 to practice on.
You will be able to sell it for about what you paid for it and can probably save money on training.

Note only that but you will get some valuable expereience on a bike before you get one that's expensive to crash.

I wouldn't go anywhere near an R6 as a second bike let alone a first.

I've found myself spinning up in second gear on my 33bhp xj600, if I was on a ~110bhp r6 I may be dead.

Sports 400s look nice, are much more forgiving, and cheaper.

Nice sports 400cc £1000-£2000 will do the trick. Great first bike. Thumbs Up

People wh know what theyre talking about have always suggested getting an unfairred bike as you will learn your cornering better and you wont spend to much time over 80. I find at 90 im getting bashed off by the wind.

Hi,

Yeah I'd probably go with the advice of getting a 125 first as well. Okay they may be painfully slow but they are good for practicing the basics on and they won't get you into too much trouble.

I'd probably go for the Gixxer out of the two if I was as they've got a reputation as a very good bike. If its your first bike (as in never had a bike before) I'd also be wary of insurance. Mention to insurers that your 24, zero no claims discount and just passed your test and they'll probably think all of they're christmases, birthdays and yearly shaggings have just come at once Laughing
