Ok, been on this Gz marauder for a while now and im getting a little bored with the power, i know its a 125, but is there anything i can do? not asking to derestrict it as i know (atleast think i do) that it cant be done.
Something like a big bore possibly? not to sure tbh, any suggestions guys?
Will be doing this after test at end of march, cant afford a new bike at the moment sadly.

I would suggest that it'd be worth more to sell left standard, when you do come to sell it.
4t 125's just aren't powerful. Perhaps you could get a special piston to increase the compression ratio, or skim the head to get the same effect.
At a very large push you could get some kind of ignition advancer to boost the power. Hell, go the whole hog and put water injection and a turbo on it!
Those last ones were just degrading depths of silliness. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

I've ridden one of those a few years ago and they are very slow on take off.
TBH I'd just sell it and get an NSR or similar.
Even better, take your test and then sell it. |

Another vote for 'sell it and get a better bike'. There's a world of difference between a 4 stroke cruiser 125 and a sports style 2 stroke 125.
While a 2 stroke is relatively easy to get more power out of, a 4 stroke like this isn't really. You would probably end up spending enough to buy an old NS without selling your bike, yet still have less power than the NS you could have bought with your tuning money .
However doing your test is never going to hurt either . |

Remember 125cc bikes prices are artificially high... once you've done your test you should be able to sell your 125 and buy something with more poke for less money.
When I did my test, I sold my 12bhp 2-stroke KH100 for £425, then bought a 55bhp RGV250 for £750. Ok it cost me a little more, but it was a hell of a lot more performance per £. |

You could possibly get some improvements with a freer flowing exhaust and air filter with rejetting to suit, or maybe a bigger carb, but to be honest I don't think you would get a decent enough return on the amount of time and money spent setting those up, if indeed there's anything available for that model. A quick search didn't show up a big bore kit available for the GZ125, but the same barrel is used in the GS125, DR125 and GN125 apparently.
You could always play around with changing your sprockets, but that's a double edged sword - gain mph, lose acceleration and vice versa. ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

He didn't ask for a new bike, he wants to know how to make his go faster.
Heres a site:

Read it and weap.
Camshafts and borings possible.

Hi
Only way to get more power really would be boring it out. You might gain a bit with a better cam as well, and maybe a larger carb, but then you are starting to spend lots of money, especially trying to get the carb to work properly.
I agree with G that you could probably buy a 2 stroke for less than the cost of tuning the 4 stroke noticeably. Suspect a new cam, carb and a bore out would (if the parts are available) be the best part of £500, with the result probably being about 16hp at best without spending money on an exhaust that would work well with it.
All the best

yes i agree with most of you posts, thank you, money is abit tight at the moment but the main thing is that my grandma lent me the money to buy this bike and she thinks its fantastic (abit dotty) yeah its a bonnie bike but riding it around for a few month is getting a little boring, not a lot of power altho its a fantastic bike to learn on handling is great and its very comfy and smooth, but just want something that i will have to hold on to as it batters down the road.
considering most derestricted 50/70cc can near enough keep up with it is abit silly, it turns heads well and sounds 'ok' but im wanting something thats got more of a kick to it, i know i shouldnt rush into things, run before you walk and all that but that all goes out the window when you get a taste for abit of speed.
Also, have you ever tried wheeling a 125 cruiser.... more than 3 inches?

Yes. I got reasonably good at it. Was on a hartford legion though which had a fair bit of poke in first. Crawl along in first to about 5mph, fan the clutch with a bit of throttle and nudge the seat slightly (tiny hip thrust). Comes down soon, but it dont half wake up the fucking kids skateboarding in our street
If you are totally desperate to wheelie it (i even managed to wheelie my mates knackered gn125 with this method, but you could hear head bearings crying so i stopped) and you dont have enough go in first. From a standstill, Rev it alot little (trust me you dont need much) and as you release out the clutch, again hip thrust the seat slightly. It seems to get the weight going forward so all the power goes to the lifting.
Warn you tho, both methods can and will flip your bike if you start big. Nearly flipped my test bike when i got bored and wheelied it ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

It was just showing what you could do, most things don't come for free ya know. I would guess that any sort of slipon exhaust would give it a tiny bit of poke, but more to the point, make it sound awesome. ____________________ Bikes: too many, too much for one man to maintain anyway. |

I'm not sure about the older shape being 'better'.
Mine is the older shape; it's a 96/97 model in chesterfield colours. It had done about 11k miles and cost me £1190.
The only real gripe I have with it is the front suspension; they are set to the hardest settings and it's still not good enough.
Going to put a bit stiffer fork oil in next time. Ideally it needs new fork internals; but at £300 or so I can't afford that for one of three road bikes I have.
It's fine for the road to be honest (and would probably be better with some one with less than 14+ stone when fully suited ), but was definitely too squishy on track. Apprantanly the later models had better forks. |

Thing is if you did have a biger bore it would take you out of 125cc land, and you'd be illegal for not all that much difference... (invalid v5, insureance, licence e.t.c.)
For the ammount it would cost to make it sinificantly faster you could get a binned (streetfighter customable) nsr...
Most peepswho had a 125-4stroke have been there, allthought its totaly not what you'd want to hear the money is far better spend doing your full test, not only will you be able to ride safer+faster you can get a beast (comparatively) for £500 or so no problem (not forgeting you will get twice that for your current bike).. ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Hmm, friend of mine is selling a 98 RS250 on an R plate, new shape, with nikon pipes for 2k~, needs piston and rings possibly, keeps fouling the plugs. Will think about it. ____________________ is that it |
