Ok, my helmet is about a year and a half old and about 2 days ago, was dropped, not a great hight, not enough to scrape the stickers or paint work, and im sure it would be fine, BUT its an excuse to buy a new lid, im looking for the Bandit/street fighter type helmets by roof and craft, not looking for the brand name here just for the design and shape of the hat, if anyone could point me out to a "cheap" ish site, not looking to pay too much and dont mind if its a copy of look-alike.

Cheers, Steve.

Don't even know what a skid lid is, but I doubt they'd be able to tell what was illegal and what wasn't by simply looking at it.

Might be able to do you in event of a crash though...

P.S Is a skid lid just a motocross helmet?

It's just another name for that thing on top of your head (a lid) which slides (skids) across the road rather than your skin and bone from sliding across the road.

T'is just another name for a helmet so far as I am aware.

Well you could do, but at the end of the day if you're gonna spend £££ on a lid than why not get one thats tested to the correct standards and will save your bonce.

As stated above, chgeck out the Simpson lids. Very Happy

very true fzr6 just really like those helmets, and driving a cruiser would not suit a race lid, so need a half way between, and they look so aggressive Very Happy

I have a roof, all be it the R10 Daytona, very good lids for the money. Lids with the movable chin bar worry me and from all i have heard they are alot noisier.

I have an original simpson bandit (the old illegal version) its noisy at speed but i wouldnt part with it , you can now buy a road legal version for around £250 but they just dont look as good ,
FYI Daz/nooby, the roof and craft bandits are all copys of the original Simpson Bandit which came out in the 70's and strongly resembled the star wars stormtrooper helmets,

The only reason the old ones are illegal is because they havent passed british testing due to a small apature (restricted visibility) although they do have a high snell rating (American safety standard thingy)
but for what its worth , i would rather crash in my simpson than any of my other helmets , the simpson has a 3 mm thick visor and is a way stronger helmet ,also if they are good enough for all the drag racers to use its plenty good enough for me .

I would have loved to have got a Roof boxer lid but after reading this review https://www.webbikeworld.com/Reviewed-motorcycle-products/user-reports/roof-boxer.htm (read the text that isn't bold) it put me right off them. Also I saw a customer where I worked that had one and the flip down wouldn't close properly. If they made one that didn't have the flip up chin guard I would have bought on.

In the end I went for a KBC VR-7 (https://www.onlineparts.com/images/catalog/thumbs/833320.jpg) in matt black which I though looks quite nice and seems to be quite a good helmet so far.

But I'd say check out the Simpson libs as the look pretty decent, probably not very quiet at speed though.

As good as the Craft RX5 looks, I would steer clear of it (except I didn't, I bought one).
It is without doubt the worst lid I ever bought. Yup, it looks great, but the finish is crap, it bedded in really quickly (to the extent that it became too big), the visor scratches the brow area, the wind lifts the visor, the official black visor scratches the fuck out of the lid as it moves up and down, and because the vents can't be closed the wind gets in your eyes and when it rains your face gets wet.

In summary.....
.......Looks great, especially with a dark visor.
.......Everything else will make you wish you bought something else. Thumbs Down

Fair enough. Thumbs Up

I still wear the Craft for short hops into town in good weather, even though I know I shouldn't, just because it looks good (damn vanity). But I do feel ripped off. Sad

Can't go wrong with the N800V. Quietish, cheap, looks cool and saved my head a number of times.

On my 4th one Embarassed .
Got my metallic black one for £99 quid though.
