I cannot stop shaking !! Very Happy

I just took my daughter for a ride on the bike. She has been on it with her Dad once before...but it was my first ever ride with a passenger ! Confused

I felt that sick, I was going to say..no, I can't do it,..but she had a swimming lesson to get to...
I gave off an air of confidence, despite daughter saying pre-trip...."now don't fall off the bike again Mummy with me on..I will break my fingers"! Sick

When she first got on I felt a rush of panic..the bike felt so heavy !! And she is only a child Razz I started off a tad wobbly, but after a couple of minutes I was well into the swing of it !! Thumbs Up

The ride back was even better, and I felt I wasn't wobbly at all.
What a fantastic experience ..I could get quite addicted to this..
Daughter (who is 8 btw) asked if we could just 'go for a ride' one weekend. Of course !! Thumbs Up maybe even tomorrow...we can go clean the bike together now. Wink

A wonderful hobby biking...yes...
but she's still not having one of her own Wink

That's ace Jodie. Thumbs Up

I admire anyone who can take pillions!! I don't think I will be able to do it in the future, it's difficult enough keeping just me upright!!

Are you going to encourage her to get a bike when she is old enough? Sounds like she doesn't need much encouragement.

Nice one Smile Thumbs Up

I've been there myself the first time I carried a pillion; the thought of riding and being responsible for my passenger's safety was pretty nerve-wracking Shocked

I just kept thinking "be smooth" the whole time Smile

I had to do this just on monday. My 8 yeah4r old daughter was stuck in school (she missed the bus) I grabbed her jeans and boots and a spare lid.
I have not ridden so slow since my first week on the bike and I was terrified. I won'tbe doing it again for a while.
Niamh got off the bike grinning from ear to ear. She loved it. I now feel sorry for my mum and dad. I know how it feels to be scared for my kids.
I feel now I could take a pillion again, just not my baby.

It's really easy. Scary the first time and after that is cool.

It's just a case of learning how the bike behaves with a pillion and accelerating smoothly, braking well in advance (again, smoothly) and just making everything flow... but I'm sure McJ has told you all this, so I'll STFU. Laughing

great stuff. I know the first time i took pillion i pooed it, ended up stopping a few metres and telling my boyfriend at the time i couldnt do it, but he was 16 stone compared to my 8 stone at the time Confused

I wont be trying it in the near future, and when i do i reckon i will go for someone more petite like myself!

I wont encourage her...to be honest I am dreading her asking Confused , but I won't discourage her either.
It is her life, her choice.
I let her have lots of choices now, so I won't stop her in the future. Thumbs Up

I rode much slower with her on-board. I too felt nerve-wracked, and overwhelmed with protectiveness, so I made sure every single move I made was slower and more precise.
It was a great ride Mr. Green
She loves it !! No fear, no drama...I wonder if I was that brave at her age ?
I do recall going on my brothers Kawasaki at about 10, but I recall it being terrifying Shocked

I will have to have her pillion daily soon, when I collect her from school, as circumstances have changed. It's only a 5 minute journey, but the speed I will be going at it will take 15 Laughing Wink
Her street cred will soar when her mates see her getting on the bike in her dudey helmet with dalmation ears on it ! ha Very Happy

I am glad I got her the whole kit from Hein Gericke...it is good quality stuff. I need some good boots for her now.

Btw..I used my 'Pillion Pal' today and it was great !! Thumbs Up She could grip so much more effectively, and I couldn't tell I was wearing it.
In fact...at some parts of the journey I had to keep checking in my wing mirrors that she hadn't fallen off..as I couldn't feel her there ! A much more pleasant experience than I had thought.

Glad you enjoyed it, i have taken a few different pillions but i have two problems:

The bike really doesn't have enough power for 2up.
The pillions always try to look over your shoulder and suddenly your starting to lean to one side even after alot of shouting and swearing. They always claim they don't do it Rolling Eyes

A 'pillion pal' is a belt with handles on the side so the pillion has something to hold on too.

More comfort for pillion and rider. Thumbs Up

My 125 struggled but coped. My 750 didn't realise anyone was there. Not taken pillion on the 400 as I won't take pillions anymore.

Make sure the pillion knows the rules and understand (unless they're children) that if they can't do it right they're walking home.

My daughter is an amazing little girl Wink But then I am biased Mr. Green
She sits so very still..good grip...leans on corners (but not too much)..and yet still surveys her surroundings, has fun and enjoys the ride!!
(Like I mentioned...I had to check she was still on the bike)
She is a born biker. Thumbs Up

She is very proud to carry her helmet.
What have I started Laughing

Excellent, you have started her at the age that she'll pick it all up and crave for more.

8 years and it'll be 'Muum, can have 'prillia 50'?????????

Laughing

Actuall Jodie, that sounds just like my girlfriend. Laughing Sits there, keeps still and enjoys the view. (That sounds so bad).

Well here's to safe mileage with the little one on board (for you and Wildcat).

Jodie, fair play to you, I hope you have fun with your wee un. Cool
I'll leave it for a while, I do take the kids round the estate (the two older ones on the back, and the baby in front of me) I do this on the cbr, maybe I'll try taking niamh out on the cbr. I have a bit more confidence on the 125, maybe it will make a difference. Praying
Just thinking, even though it scared me half to death, I'd still rather take her myself than put her on with someone else. Shifty

I can't wait until it warms up....a quick spin on the bike will be just that again..instead of spending half an hour getting dressed Rolling Eyes

The summer hols will be good this year...me and kiddie...off for adventures Laughing

Thanks wildcat... I would rather her on with me than someone else too Thumbs Up
Yes, try on the 125, it's important for you to have total confidence on the bike in the first place, before you attempt a pillion on that bike.
