ZZR600 D1 Multiple problems.....

hello all, i have recently purchased a zzr600 D-1 1991.
when purchased the bike had been stood for at least 6 months with a full tank of unleaded and was running poorly and would not tick over, have put full tank of fresh fuel in but it still refuses to tickover.
however the bike does run okay upto 7000rpm but a majority of the time it struggles to go beyond that, especially in the higher gears but when i drop a gear past 7000rpm it flies like a rocket.

Another problem i have found upon inspection of the airbox was that there has been a small fire in there and the filter has been partially destroyed. Any ideas what would cause a fire in an airbox?

Also MASSIVE fuel consumption, 59miles on full tank ( yes, i DID run out of fuel in the middle of nowhere!!!!)

I forgot to put my air filter in on my bike once (er5) and it wouldn't rev over 3k...much to my dismay That'll definetely need replaced.

If it were my bike, I'd be looking at the carbs...you taken them off yet?

Hi

The air filter will not help. However it sounds like it is really drinking fuel. First thing is to take the carbs apart and check that the floats are working and the needle valves are closing.

The 7000rpm issue could just be a problem with an aftermarket exhaust.
