Hi,

My girlfriend's dad has been offered an '87 XV1000 for £1200. It's apparently mint condition with only 15,000 miles on it. Does anyone have any knowledge of classic bike prices and whether this is a good deal assuming it is in good condition?

Thanks

Mark

I think describing it as a classic is stretching things a little Wink

It's a 70's style shaft drive cruiser. I think most of them in the UK were 1100s, so might be an import.

IMHO It's an ugly bloody thing. All out of proportion, it looks sort of squashed side on and has an incongruously massive seat and horrible 70s cast wheels.

To me, and I'm no expert - £1200 sounds OK, but not a bargain.

Think they were inspired by the Chopper push bike from the 70's Sick

apparently it is one of 120 actually made in this country and all the other 1000s were imported. Do you reckon this fact might make it slightly more valuable to a collector or someone?

Appears a good price.
The XV1100 Virago can be up to £3,500 for a newish good one (a friend has looked) but then down to £1000 or less for a do upper Confused

Don't know much about the 1000, maybe try the Virago (Virago Star) owners club - do a google.

If that's his thing and he likes cleaning chrome then why not.
Depends if offered from a mate, as they're more likely not to want to sell you a lemon.

HTH Thumbs Up

I would say it's going to have a very small re-sale market full-stop.

Unlike the VX535, if you park an XV1000 next to a newer cruiser it is going to look hideously dated. Not in a classic way, but in a kind of mullet and white socks way. Wink Wink

If that sort of thing doesn't bother him, then why the hell not? A bike's a bike Smile
