Ok, I probably should have tried to blag myself a deal at the Motorbike show at the weekend but I thought best just to go through my usual mechanic to order me a new rear tyre (my current rear is now illegal!)

I quite like the Avon Azaro's thats on it but I think I might just change the front and rear at the same time. I'm seeing tyre deals for £150 for the pair on other brands. I was quoted £120 supplied and fitted just for a rear! I was quite tempted to go for Michelin Pilot Powers but I'm now unsure.

Also, my front Avon has lots of life left in it. Is there a chance I could get some money back on that if I change the pair? What should I do?

TBH I'm pissed off my rear lasted only about 2k miles as did my last one. Thats 2 rear tyres in 4k miles! The first tyre wore evenly but this 2nd tyre has wore right down the middle as I've been using it all winter upright. Any recommendations? I'm hearing Bridgestones are quite grippy and last well.

Another thing, can't remember my tyres sizes front and rear, can anyone help!?!? 98 ZX6R.

Ta Thumbs Up

I've had Brigstone BT010's on my hornet for the last 4k. They have now done 6 trackdays and the rear has got a little square over the winter. There is still plenty of tread left on both but i will be chainging tyres at the end of this month. Ill be sticking with Bridgestones as they have been so good. I'm going for something a little stickier for the summer with bt012ss tyres.

010 fronts are good, but 010/020 bridgestones lasted 1~k miles on my hornet. Got some D207's on now and i feel a lot more confident on them that the bridgestone and they look to be holding up quite well. Bridgestone grip quite well but they last about 2 seconds.

I love the piot power tyres quite simply they are great at low temperature and warm up really fast, offer the best grip I have felt, seen or heard about on track ( keeping up with trackbikes fitted with pilot race medium compound tyres on corners ) and if michelin are correct they will last as long as a set of pilot sport tyres, which for me was a little over 11,000 km in hot Australian conditions! softest compound on the market and 46 degrees lean angle in the wet (which is a big factor for all you U.K. residents Wink )

Hmmm ^^

Maybe still worth considering. I really didn't think they would last as long. I must have a very heavy right wrist as I've killed two rear Avon's in no time at all!

Anyone know prices? I'm sure I seen a pair for about £220?

I currently run Avon Azzaro st45/46 combo on my 'XX' but they have doen 9k Shocked , absolute rock hard compound, good in the dry but unpredictable in the wet Thumbs Down .
I used to run BT 010/011e combo and thats what i shall go back to, i got 3-4k from a set on the 'XX' and were sticky enough to get the fairing lowers down in the dry and never missed a beat in the wet.
Tommy Salt Tyres in Warrington can do Avon AV49/50 sport tyres for £130 pair fitted just incase anyone nearby fancies new boots.

Hi

Got BT010 on the FZR600. Seem to work well in the wet. The rear had done about 3000 miles and was around half worn when it was repeatedly "nailed". Not cheap tyres though.

On the Bandit I have some Avons. Work well enough on the Bandit and last very well. Think they were about £125 for the pair but I had to get them fitted (bought them loose at the BMF show last year).

I have the D207RR on the Bimota. Work OK but I actually preferred the old (very old) Michelin Hi Sports fitted when I bought the bike (stuck the D207RR on and put the old Hi Sports on the Bandit where they worked very very well Very Happy ). The D207RR are not nice at all in the wet, but I suspect that is more down to how stiffly sprung that bike is.

I suspect that which tyres work for which people comes down to how they have their suspension set up and how heavy they are. I seem to generally get on with Michelin tyres, with Avon and Pirelli being pretty good as well, but I have rarely been happy with Dunlops. Bridgestones I also like but they are too expensive normally.

All the best

Keith
