I have seen a poll here asking if you dropped your bike and seen quite a few people drop their bikes while pushing them around the garages, driveways and other similar areas. The thing I would like to know is how people go about pushing their bikes about?, do people put both hands on the bars and steer it around?, put one hand on a bar and the other hand on the seat? or just sit on it and paddle it about on tippy toes? I seen in some DVD's of Performance Bikes tests when they get their bikes out of vans the guys just hold the bike by both bars and push it along but if I do that I feel it will fall away from me so I tend to just stand on the left side of the bike, hold the left bar with my left hand and put my right hand on the seat just before the tank to stop it from falling to the right.

I hoik the bike up onto my shoulder and carry it to where it needs to be.

Once I've carefully reinserted my prolapsed bowel however, I do as FZR6 - hands on bars, bike leaning in towards me.

So if you want to move the position of your bike in, say your garage, you turn it on, let it warm up for 5 minutes then use it to move the bike.

Bit long winded, eh? Wink

When you own a big bike you learn never to push it anywhere. If I need to move it without power I sit on the thing and push it about that way coz it's impossible to drop a bike while your sitting on it. If it's on a slope I use the engine. I never try and push a 200kg bike around coz once it starts to go your fooked.

Not if you remove that 5 minute bit. Wink

Left hand on left bar, right hand on tank or seat (if going backwards).
Bike leaning slightly towards me (can support with thigh/knee if required).

Thumbs Up

Wanna bet Embarassed Embarassed

I always try to move the bike with the engine and ride it into position, or at least paddle it to where I want it.

If it does come down to the dreaded pushing (why is it always in the middle of summer when you are wearing full leathers???), then I tend to use the both hands on the handlebars technique.

Paddle it for the most part, but it's only 130kg, and with a low saddle height it's pretty easy. With sufficiently steep gradients or if there's gravel about, or if it's a bigger heavier bike (F650 for example) I'll tend to push it from the left, with it leaning towards me slightly. Easy to reach the sidestand and can support some weight on your hip/ thigh if needs be.

But, I do like to be lazy and just use the engine if I'm just going straight forward out of the garage. Smile

Pedants Razz

I don't generally move it around the garage, there's plenty room for me to move around it rather than it moving around me.

If I want to move it a few feet, I just push/pull it the same way everyone else does.

To reverse out of a parking space, I sit on it and push backwards.

Happy now?

sit on it and walk it around... i'm 6' 4".. so i'm never on tippy toes..

even my wife is 5' 10" so she can walk both the bikes around like that...

and if i'm moving it up a slope, just start the engine and away you go..

I wouldnt think of moving the bike off the stand without sitting on it.. to much plastic to break!

Then there's always the "sit astride the bike, clutch the seat between your buttocks and lift, then walk with it" method. Worked on the CB100N Smile

For now..... Embarassed Wink

I've got to push my bike about 10 - 15m away down the end of the street anyway. Bike is parked right beside peoples bedroom windows and with the race can on and the bike warming up, I'd get a few complaints Sad

The technicians at my Uni complained about it too, saying I can't start it up under the building Thumbs Down Laughing

I push it however it needs to be pushed.. forward back, slide it sideways etc.. turn it around I just lift it up on sidestand and spin around.. (yes I do that to R6) I'm only little, not exactly strong.. it's all in the pivoting and weight transfer and stuff Laughing I've never dropped my bike whilst pushing it around (other than a u-turn on a steep hill Razz )

The KTM I just pick it up and move it Laughing Not all that heavy really. I guess the fact I live on a really steep hill, and usually have to maneoeuver past a car on drive, means I have got used to pushing my bikes about a bit without dropping them.

One thing I don't like though is sticking them on a trailer! Evil or Very Mad

I usually just sit on the bike and paddle forwards/backwards with my feet. My bike is low enough to the ground to get my feet flat and then bend my legs too. I can get it up to jogging speed that way. Smile

Getting it into my garage, Drive it in, then bump the rear end round to get it in the door, then the same to get it out, sit on it and shuffle it around then getting off and pushing it up a small incline, or sumtimes geting lazy and driving it up, abit of a hassle i know but still, better than leaving it on the street eh Razz
