Hello, I have a few problems with my scooter. When I go to start it up in the morning it doesn't start most times and I have to kick start it. This also happens if I don't use it for 7-8 hours then go to sart it up again.
Also, It dosn't tick over properly. when I stop at traffic lights I have to keep reving it constantly or it cuts out.
Another problem is the pull off has become very poor, espically when I first start it up.
It is the 2003 model. It has been derestricted and has a scorpion exhaust.
Can you tell me what problems I have please?

Haha! My Piaggio Typhoon 50 (1997 model) seems to have the same symptoms!

The pull off being poor at start up is because the engine is cold by the way.

I don't know what the tick over problem is but mine doesn't tick over until warm. Try turning all the lights off as I think it is the electrics draining the power.

To make it start on the electric when cold absolutely punch the electric start (no seriously) it is very poor. As you can tell Italian Electronics are terrible! Mr. Green

Thanks for the quick reply. Why have all these problems all of a sudden come on? If it is the cold engine then why didn't it do it before when it was cold?
Thanks

Your guess is as good as mine, how many miles has yours done? Mine has done about 15,000 miles.

It seems to have got worse as winter went on.

My speedfight sometimes sufferes from similar problems. When cold, the electric starter fails to start it, but the kick works fine; although theres not really much you can about this.

As for the slow take off, has this only really started happeneing when you changed the exhaust? Could you describe it as 'bogging down'? You may need tighter clutch springs to solve this problem. Mine does this too. Though i have not changed the clutch springs, i overcome the problem by raising the revs with the rear brake on, so when you release the brake, the pull off will be smooth Thumbs Up

Again thanks for the replys. the scooter did suffer from slow pull off when i had the exhaust fitted but that was fixed by fitting lighter rollers. and its only done 3200km

Sonny- you're not the only one - I had an immobiliser on my NRG, standard, derestricted and had similar problems. I'd have a thourough going over with it at the mechanics.

My problem was due to a duff battery, immobiliser drained the current, hence having to kickstart. The cutting out was quite frequent towards the end of its life. Altenator problems maybe or a dodgy CDI unit. I have a feeling it's some iginition problem as many have suggested. I'd say go get it checked out - 40 quid and my machine was back to scratch.

Former machine was an NRG Extreme DT 2000 - 9000miles.

Automatic choke? My old NRG had that, and it came on when starting and you can hear the engine running fast until its warm and it slows itself down. Could be that?
Also check the airbox is sealed well, they are picky about that, mine wouldnt go past 20 once with an air leak.

Yeah if you have got running like that, best to do the old faithful DIY checks
Oil, engine and 2 stroke.
Spark plug, if it is white you should have done it awhile back. Lol
Air box
If all of that is cool, you have an internal problem.
If the bike has never really be warmed and always blasted those symptoms come about after awhile.

Is there not a little hatch at the base of the seat pedestal unit silly plastic thing? At the back of the feet silly floorboard thing? Where that sticker/ whatever silly thing is.

Edit: wrong moped, they all look the same anyway.. Rolling Eyes

There's an obvious handle to grab on that one, a cutout in the plastic. There should be a hatch or something there.

Err more specifically, if you haven't found it - see edit of mcHaggis' post. Extra precaution to when reinstalling it. Finger tighten the plug so as not to strip the screw thread. When in doubt consult your manual for the correct torque values, but usually after you've finger tightened it, it's about a 1/4 turn of the plug wrench as a rough gestimate - don't over force it.

Getting to the plug, remove the casing with philips head and it should be behind it - obviously remove the HT lead first.
