I know there is a law against the cans and exhaust systems that are incredibly loud, one thing that I have been thinking for a while…..

How come Harleys, customs and choppers sound like they are breaking the sound barrier everywhere and they don’t get pulled?
If coppers see you on a RGV250 say with a loudish can, they have you.

I would like to know what the deal with this is also....

I've been followed a few times by the coppers now when I've been riding about town. Dunno if they are doing a check on the bike or being knobs OR checking out how shiney my race can is!

Also there are those classic 1940’s looking things, straight pipes that could deafen pedestrians, usually ridden by guys with beards and funny helmets.

No idea, but it is true. On my last chop I had open drag pipes, and was way louder than any race can I've ever heard, and despite attending many events with high police presence I never got pulled once.

i got a complaint last night, from my neighbour across the road, about my bike being to noisy when i turn it off (give it a rev, turn ignition off, bep beep, from alarm)...

that's with my stock can...

Probably because it's only old people who complain about the noise and when they see a bike that looks like its been made post 1950's then they complain.

The look of the bike probably has something to do with it. Perhaps they think all harleys are that loud STANDARD.

Either way, I want a cruiser that makes that kind of noise. Cannae beat it

My mate had the neighbours on his back for leaving his bike running for 5 mins in the morning (during the winter) before he went to work...

But it's ok for them to crank up the stereo at crazy hours at night. My bike doesn't want to run unless it's really warmed up when the temp is close to zero...

Then you also have 'rude boys' in there Saxo's and Corsa's with ear splitting pipes, whats all that about???

How many people do you know who have actually been done for having a race/not road legal exhaust?

None is my answer and I know lots of people who ride or rode with very loud bikes and were never done.

Think it's more down to bad luck, get seen by the wrong cop when they're in a bad mood at high revs and you're out of luck but IMO unless you really really take the piss with volume and where you make lots of noise you'll be okay.
