I may be repeating an old subject here long covered, however the new cbr seems to have alarmingly low fuel consumption (to me).

My riding at the moment generally involves if im honest, crawling along at too high a gear for my speed (i find im better behaved in less responsive gears), or im somewhat gunning it intermittently on straights. Also when i go to my favourite road (my naughty road so to speak, im sure you have yours too) im rarely below peak torque and i spend about 90 % at over a ton (its a nsl btw). So thats another 14-15 miles booting it out of this 110.

But basically i seem to be getting around 25mpg on a cbr 600... (£12 in petrol lasts me about 110 miles). Is that normal? Asides from not doing my favourite road and being very behaved, any other tips for conserving petrol?

ok apparently its closer to 35.5 mpg (my maths is very numpty ish).

In theory £12/.85 = 14 litres, 14 litres divided by 4.5 = 3.1 ish, 110 divided by 3.1 is 35.5 ish (its late, im tired, so forgive me my cack handed ness)

Still abit steep.

Yup. Thats the downside. It's crap isn't it Sad

35mpg sounds about alright I guess. I'm assuming you're riding faster than you will be once you get more used to the bike so it'll get better fuel consumption with time.

130-140 miles seems the normal, I'm afraid.

I'd say 35MPG is normal for a 600 being ridden like it should, though no where near as much as it should be.

I get 50MPG, even if I cain the GPZ, so I think I shall be putting off my upgrade for abit.

Im a student... i cant afford 30 quid a weekend on petrol Neutral

Oh and instigator yes i know ill calm down, novelty has already warn off. But as i say, i have my naughty road i like to potter too. Its 7 miles of 3 figures, but its 10 miles of motorway to get there too, so after a blat up and down and there and back ive done 35 miles ish. Gallon of fuel. About 4 quid. Shocked

Hondas... very rusty Laughing

Got 95miles per £12 with em in, 110miles per £12 without.

Doesnt surprise me as its running basically full throttle for half the performance. Stupid fucking laws. Anyone who keeps em in needs a sanity check.

I haven't let my tank go empty yet, but I top up every 80-100 miles, I usually get £5-£6.50 in.
I think this is very low Althought I can fill the wee cbr for about £6 and get at least 120 miles out of her. Laughing

The way I see it, I just spent £200 on something and I want to get my money's worth. Call me retarded or whatever, That's just my opinion.

And I need to get used to my bike anyway so not having masses of power is gonna be a benfit for a while.

A valid point and one my dad raised. However the way i see it, i spent 2 grand on a sports bike. I want a sportsbike. Also I spent that 200 on making sure if i get pulled its one less thing to worry about. I have a certificate (Rolling Eyes) so hopefully fewer questions asked.

As for getting used to the bike, well i did that on saturday and sunday. On monday i had them out.
To be brutally honest, the power doesnt catch you out. Nor does the speed. All it does is what it was doing before, but smoother. And basically the same power is exhibited, except its compressed (ie when restricted what you get by reving to 12k you get at like 4-5 k). Oh and it wheelies Very Happy Seriously when you take them out you will wonder why you left em in so long.

It's not going to make nearly as big difference on a klr600.

Yeah, I suppose it depends what kind of bike you got.

I have a KLR600 trailbike so I'm not going to really notice much difference anyway so the way I see it I may aswell as leave them as it's not going to make too much difference at the end of the day. (I rode my bike on a private road before it was restricted and I only really notice the difference at the top end going past 80mph, might be my in-experince not picking up on stuff for me not noticing the difference though) And as you say, it's one less thing to worry about if I get pulled. (I'm very paranoid Shocked )

I doubt it'll take me long to get used to my bike, I'm going on out on it on the weekend if I'm not working and I plan to do a fair bit of mileage.

But yeah, I'll probably wonder why I didn't take them out sooner....... Exclamation

I get 80 miles to £11 when riding normally Crying or Very sad . (Downgeared which puts MPG down even more as its in the rev range more than the standard gearing). The only thing i dont like about my hornet is the fact it eats tyres and is very very thirsty. Otherwise its tip top.
