reed valves are realy simple, if you remove your carb, your reed valve will b sat just under it, simply unbolt and bolt the new one in,
your reed valve will only need replacing if the reeds are not returning shut properly, you can replace a standard reed valve with a softer one so it lets more fuel through but this will ware out much faster and the difference in performance will be minimal

Another question. I have just has to have a rebuild new Piston and head. This was due to the bike running to lean and there was not enough oil going to the Piston (This is what I was told by Dealer). This is now sorted done 40miles since, would putting a new doppler reed value make any differnece to the fuel mixture? and cause me more problems? Dont want any more problems so cautious to fit it.

"if it isnt broke dont fix it"

I was always told to leave the reed valves alone and only fiddle if it is absolutely neccesary, due to the fragility of them.
