Well this weekend was our first race weekend. I was Pit Bitch for this one as we are sharing a bike until new one comes. So Wayne was riding.

We set of from Belfast in van with caravan attached on Saturday afternoon. 4 hrs later arrived in Mondello. Found our mates who are racing as well and then set up.

We where then told that there where over 60 bikes for the same class PRE 97 CBR 600 and that there was to be no practice just straight quailifing. (shit)

Anyway rest of night spent sorting out bits and pieces, scrutineering etc.

Up early next morning, just waited till it was Wayne's turn

So off he went, remember folks this was first time to this track.
15 minutes passed, then waited an hour because the organisation was a disaster.

He was 28th shit I couldn't believe it, he was on 7th row of the grid.

Race 1: great start by lap 2 he was up to 19th and catching the rest. 1 lap to go he drops back. Finishes 25th. The rear tyre started to go so he backed off to save it for Race 2, great thinking.

Race 2: Blinding start up to 15th and holding, with 2 laps to go he disappears, then he comes round very slow, limps the bikle home in 24th. Back tyre totally shreaded.

All in all brill weekend, Big up for Wayne, he has laid the gauntlet for me at next meeting.

well done guys, sounds like you had a good time.

were you expecting that amount of wear on the tyres?

I'm sure every race meeting you go to will improve your performance both to knowledge of how the races work and learning things about the bike that you might not have thought about.

Good luck for the next one.

If I'm available for a meet I might come up and take some pics. Let me know when it is. (I'l do my best to make sure you get some good ones)

Bikes looking great, no sponsers yet then?

What tyres were you using?

Luckily bemsee (that I'm racing with) tends to be pretty well organised.

Do you realise they're the other side of the water Swaffs?

Swaffs, we are in Northern Ireland, but if you are ever over let me know and a SMALL drinking session can be arranged. Laughing

We are running rennsports, but we had done 3 track days before so it was our own fault for not sticking new rubber on. We have learnt our lesson.

The 2002 CBR will be here next week, so happy days for me, I will have the PRE 97 bike for myself Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I've been told that.

Found the way I was boxed in by other bikes kinda stopped me from 'going for it' or leaning over etc Smile.

Have tyre warmers, but noticed that they seem to call the next race too soon so everyone sites around at pit entrance with tyres going cold, so I reckon it will be about timing it so your not siting about. Pain in the arse.

Yea, I noticed and was expecting that. Trick for us seems to be to go when the shout 'last call' Smile...

Had to do my second day without tyre warmers because the genny died Sad. We had to wait ages on my first race that day though, which equalised things a bit. Made sure I did plenty of hard braking and accelerating in the warm up lap and was more held up by the 40 novices piling into a corner than by the tyres Smile.
