de-restriction rg125

hi i have just bought a rg 125 gamma(1988) which has been restricted to about 60 mph. it gets there really quick and then cuts out on me. i think maybe it could be electrically restricted i dont know! how can i get around this? cheers ash!

I think you need to cut a wire from the cdi.
I have got a real old copy of PB somewhere, maybe in the loft and I am sure it's in there, fingers crossed someone will know more, save me turning out the loft.

Hi

The Gamma was restricted mainly in the exhaust and also by leaving off the power valve system. Don't think it is worth doing anything with the power valve (it would be expensive and does not loose you much power at all). From memory the restriction was a washer very lightly welded into the front of the exhaust. I would be surprised if it is still there as they were so easy to remove.

Not sure how you could restrict it electrically. I would check that someone hasn't stopped the throttle opening fully as that is the most likely bodge way of restricting a bike. After that I would start checking the bike over for wear / service related items (such as worn bore, dirty air filter, knackered spark plug, coked up exhaust).

The cutting of the black / white wire to the CDI unit to derestrict them applies to the 1990s RG125, so does not apply to your 1988 bike.
