Today I went out on my bike, on my lonesome, with the intention of just gaining a little confidence, as I am still very much a learner, and have to be really pushed to get on my bike and ride.
After Ash t giving it lots of 'Just get on and go' ... I did, with the intention of just going to Congleton and back.
I got home 5 hours later - after clocking up 83 miles (alot for me), and during this time I did filtering for the first time on three occasions, overtook 4 vehicles in a safe manner, had 2 cars pull out on me, and avoided them, went past my old DAS instructor and gave him a major wink and made him grin (he obviously remembers his old 'drop the bike' student), got numerous nods, and most importantly, gained major confidence riding the 'Cat n Piddle' and managing eventually to learn how to lean on corners.
I arrived home safe, contented and well chuffed with myself.
But I'll still be shaking when it comes to taking the bike out again ..... it must get easier in time ? |

I'm like you, thing is i don't know any good roads and if i do venture out it takes double the time getting back as i usually get lost.
Love this leaning stuff though
Overtaking is sooo much easier on the RVF than a VanVan Though i have alot of respect for the little 125 that got me through my test

Good on you! What you need now is for Distortion to get his own bike so you actually get chance to ride yours......
And it does get easier, the first few times I took my big (big! Ha!) bike out after passing my test I was convinced it was broken as it kept running wide on left-handers - glad to be able to report that it's fixed now! ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

My informant is wrong, I must have been out a much shorter time, I did have a 25 min break outside Tesco, and a good chat with an oldie about the good ol' days, kick starts, breaking down, slowness, etc etc.
I did plenty of speed stuff, managing 100mh at one point, which I impressed myself with, though I also annoyed myself, because I could have found out the ZXR's top speed, beautiful short (ish) by-pass between Chapel-en-le-Frith and Whaley Bridge. |

Hey, don't pee on my parade, it takes me all my time to go above 30 !!!!!!!!!!
If I had had the balls to start earlier on the by-pass, I could have got it to 140 easy - so there (goes into childish mode)
The by-pass in question is a breeze, never ever any police on it (from 3 years of regular use), got 120 in my car, 110 on the RS (distortion), its fine !!!! |
