apparently the rest of the country has hard water and therefore a product called viascal is common on supermarket shelves. This stuff mixed with 50% water dissolves the furry white shit you get on fasteners and callipers etc caused by road salt.
Cumbria has some of the softest water in Europe so no feckers ever heard of viascal up here, which leaves me no choice but to scrub the stuff off with my little wire tooth brush (don't ask)
This is usually a 3 hour job to get into all the nooks and crannies.
So sick of this routine I went to my local Halfords and asked the spotty teenage assistant if they stoked anything that would desolve road salt deposits. He just looked at me through half closed eyes while dribbling slightly from a slack jawed mouth.
Tried Muckoff and all the other stuff but nothing shifts this stuff.

Anyone any ideas?

It'll be interesting to see how much better this "Safecote" salt will be :-

Safecote is the brand name of an agricultural bi-product that is added to rock salt at the Salt Union Mine in Winsford, Cheshire. This bi-product is derived from molasses which is used in the process of refining sugar.

There are numerous benefits to using Safecote. For example, it:

provides corrosion inhibition to carbon, steel and aluminium and, hence, motor vehicles
reduces concrete spalling and asphalt road surface damage
provides salt with free-flowing characteristics. This is highly beneficial during salting operations as it ensures a uniform distribution of salt
has been shown to be less damaging to the environment than pure rock salt.

It's not too bad on the road, but it sticks to EVERYTHING and is a complete sod to get off!
