Navtrak is a company who's system I have fitted to many a vehicle, has the device inserted in to the vehicle wiring in one of about 35 different places on an average car (less places on bikes admittedly). the user has a credit card sized transponder which when the vehicle is moved mor than 1 metre (GPS system) checks for the presence of the card and if no card is present alerts the call centre. depending on your choice when you signed up they will either call your designated number to give you chance to check your vehicle or will call the police.
once on the move if stolen your vehicle can be tracked anywhere in the U.K. and mainland Europe.
I personally know of two people who have had cars stolen and recovered back to them within 24 hours of theft and my customers often talk about how they forget to take the card with them and received a call within 30 seconds of moving the car.
Insurance companies also offer a large discount for having one of these devices fitted.
They are invaluable on prestige cars but I must admit I have no experience of fitting them to bikes but would think under the tank would be suitable.
