Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. It had been raining when I was out on my bike one day but I didnt think anything of it when I got home.

When I picked my helmet up the next day it looked like some sort of coating on the visor had bubbled up where the drops of water and condensation had been (outside and inside). I had to then try to scrape the bubbly things off using a cloth or I wouldn't have been able to see and TBH it is now completely f*cked and has got tiny scratches all over it where I was rubbing the bubbles off. I have tried all sorts of visor cleaners to try and sort it out but as well as the scratches, it still has little patches of whatever the coating was all over and visibility is v poor. Does anyone know what it was and why it bubbled like that?

It was just a basic helmet worth about £80 so I dont know if its worth getting a new visor or just scrapping it and getting a new helmet completely. Am going to start bike lessons in the next few weeks so am really going to need something that I can see out of properly.

Hmm. Never heard of any bubbling happening from contact with plain ol' water. Maybe something unsavory got splashed onto it and reacted with the scratch resistant/UV filter coating? I've got a simple $80 HJC helmet and the visor's fantastic. Highly scratch resistant and minds not the rain, nor my constant cleanings with abrasive chemicals.

My recommendation would be to order a replacement visor via the internet. It could be at your doorstep in 3-4 days, if it's anything like the service we've got here. Maybe the next day if it's in stock. Thumbs Up

G'luck.

Did any of the helmet go funny or just the visor?

Certainly sounds like you got something weird on it, maybe a vehicle was spraying a fine mist of something and you didn't notice cos it was wet (got my car covered in hydraulic fluid once when following a tractor).

If it's new-ish you could try taking it back to the shop, otherwise I'd just buy a new visor - even if it's a crappy cheap helmet, it'll doubtless become your pillion helmet later, so worth hanging onto.
