Hi there

Ok,

You are comming up to a junction, slowing down for a corner, slowing down for lights, infact you are just slowing down, but not necessarily stopping;
This could be slowing down and speeding up in between traffic !!

Do you

A) Pull the clutch in and roll while slowing down

B) just brake and make the engine use its natual braking also,

I hate the chug chug chug my bike makes and so i always pull the clutch in.
infact if a car looks like its going to pull out on me, my first reaction is to have a hand ready on the clutch !

I just natually pull it in when slowing down.

What do you think ?

Is it not better on the bike this way ?
Jamie

You're doing it wrong (imo) To slow down you should use the engine aswell.

Closing the throttle should be your first action then braking follows quickly after. With experience you should have changed into a lower gear as you approach an area where you might experience a hazard.

If the engine starts to shudder as you are breaking, change down a gear and let the clutch out again, repeat as appropriate. In an emergency, this is not essential, the engine can stall-out if necessary. Only pull and hold the clutch in immediatley before you come to a complete halt, anything else means you are coasting which does nothing for the speed of braking or your control of the bike.

If I do an emergency stop, the bike remains in the gear I was in when I first started to brake and I have to shift down through the box whilst stationary to get it into first to move off again.

If you pulled in your clutch straight away on your test you would fail. Something to do with not having full control.... Its best to be comfortable with what gear is needed at a specific speed and using that. If you are in first and the bike is shuddering you should either stop or start slipping the clutch controlling your bike this way (you will have learnt this in your CBT).

I agree with what everyone else said. Though if I can see im going to stop, like definately for more than a minute, i will knock it into neutral and roll up. Otherwise use the engine breaking

Let it roll on the natural engine speed pulling your clutch in makes you have less control over the bike and your braking capabilaties you only need to pull the clutch in when you hit about 6/7 mph or incase you have to do an emergency brake so that your engine does not stall. Thumbs Up

slow down by smoothly changing down the box, and only finally pulling the clutch in when you almost come to a halt.
