bit of an unusual question maybe....but I'm trying to find a 50cc scooter that has a narrow footboard
reason the board needs to be narrow is the person who is using the bike has a hip injury and can't lift his feet to get them on the ground fast enough when the bike stops so him and the bike will just tip over if it goes to the wrong side!
if it was narrow enough it doesn't create so much of a problem

have looked at a few different ones but the boards are all too wide

so...does anyone know of one that has a narrow board ? have looked at a peugeot TKR and Gilera sp50, both of which were too wide (just to give you an idea)

any help appreciated Smile

couldn't he just keep his feet on the edges of the footboard?

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Have you looked at upright bikes, or do they have to be in a sitting position?

ok..just spoke to him again....got it a bit wrong....
the problem is because of the width of the footboard he can only put 1 leg down at a time, so if he has his right leg down and it wants to go to the left he'll fall over....

problem with upright bikes is the petrol tanks make it uncomfortable for him to use because of this hip injury, also getting on/off isn't ideal either
he actually has an old kawasaki ae50 just now with a modified petrol tank (bashed in either side), he just puts the stand down (which has a bit of box section welded on the bottom to make it sit stable) to climb on and off
so ideally he's looking for a step through with a narrow footboard to avoid all the above problems...

suppose another possibility would be to modify the footboard but I have no idea if/how that would be possible

How about something along the lines of a QT50?

Have you had a look at 50cc supermotos?? Can sit upright and wont have the tank problem, and can stand with one foot on the ground comfortably. Only problem could be getting on it. Something like a Derbi SM or Aprilia MX.

Honda Wallaroo?
Not sure how easy they are to get in this country, but they could be bought for pennies abroad then bought over.

You could always pop a C90 engine in too Smile

that seem a bit dangerous not just for him but the pillion as well , if he struggles to get his foot down with the weight of a ped , how will he cope with another 10 stone of how much he/she weighs.

sound like he needs a car instead.....

or if the pillion has long legs and could put his or her footdown instead Very Happy

would just create the same problems as he has just now unfortunately Sad , the AE50 is basically an old style trail bike and even the tank on that is a bit wide, cant imagine the derbi sm or aprilia mx being much different ??

will let him see the Honda Wallaroo thanks, depends how high the frame is where you step through...although the way it is with no footboard would certainly suit him
have been looking for something for quite a while now and to be honest it seems almost impossible to find something out the factory that does everything he wants (step through, narrow footboard + passenger seat)
thanks for all the help though people Smile

ye, it's not for commuting or anything, they take the bike away with them to events , it's mainly used for driving around fields but there are some main roads so needs to be road legal, considered a road legal quad too but he has to sit side saddle on that which probably isn't allowed onthe road...and you're not allowed a passenger either Sad
the passenger just now does put her legs down to help but she's not always on lol

How about one of these each - no licence or insurance required, 16 mile range, 14mph :-

Yep, it's electric. Is there anything stopping the pillion having their own transport?

it gets transported in a truck to the events..only enough room for 1 bike...also not looking to spend big money (500ish I think)

the FS1 would just be the same as what he has now...(ae50 with a bashed in tank)
