(kmx 125) rattly sounding engine in the mid range

I've only had by kmx 125 out a couple of times so far, but I've noticed that the engine sounds quite rattly/gurlge-y when the throttle is in the middle position. By that I mean not fully on or off, but in the mid range.

Now the bike has had a service less than a couple o hundred K ago, so I'm assuming that this is just the way 2strokes (or at least this 2stroke) sound.

Does that sound reasonable? Perhaps I'm just being paranoid. When I had it out on the dual carriageway yesterday in top gear at about sixty the engine sounded quite happy ...

Er it was years ago when I had one, but I seem to remember the KIPS system made arattling sound when something had worn and needed replacement.
Mid throttle is where it started to open/close or whatever it did.

The KIPS system shouldnt make any noise really. It just operates the valves at around 6500ish rpm. Is the sound your bike is making a mechanical rattling noise would you say, or a popping/crackling sound? If its the latter it could be a bad seal at the exhaust pipe or silencer for example. My old kmx200 used to pop and crackle like a bowl of rice crispies if i went down a hill, with the throttle just slightly open. Its only because the bike is fourstroking on light load with small throttle openings though.
