Hi

We have 3 of those AF1s (the single headlight versions, there was a nice looking twin headlight one on Ebay recently which went for next to nothing).

Bike parts list is here but I have not got the engine parts list scanned in.

If you speak to Peter Knight then he should be able to supply you with an engine workshop manual, parts list and any spare parts you need.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Yes, think steal is the right word. I was toying with bidding for it, but checked my bank account Crying or Very sad . When I saw how much it went for I was still kicking myself. I had sent the guy selling it a link to the parts list.

Few bits of info for you.

They made about 21hp at the back wheel in the road tests, and managed 94mph or so. Yours is the Replica version, but there was also a single headlight normal version. Not many differences, although usefully yours should have a transluscent 2 stroke oil tank (the normal ones are black so you cannot see the oil level). The oil tank is massive (1.8L). The replica version came with a pillion seat cover which is why there are a couple of holes in the piece behind the seat.

The barrel has a steel liner so can be rebored.

The rear tyre is a 120/80 16, and they are difficult to get. If you try to use a 120/90 tyre it will wear through the rear mudguard.

The petrol tank is huge. Think it was a claimed 22L, but you can do a lot of miles on a tank.

Check the forks. They are very prone to pitting.

They are quite easy to work on. Some parts are shared with the later AF1 Sintesi. The indicators can be sourced from Triumph (the Triumph stalks are different but you can swap those over). The tail light is shared with loads of late 80s Italian bikes. The footrest hangers break easily if you drop the bike, and the side stand is so useless that you have to be really careful to avoid dropping it. The brake lever is common to loads of bikes.

There should be a road test scan of it here:-

https://www.alfa-pages.co.uk/Aprilia/roadtest.zip

The chain is adjusted with an eccentric mount for the rear wheel. You will see a small hole near the centre of the wheel. A steel pin goes through there into a matching hole in the eccentric to lock them together. Slacken the 2 allen key bolts on the back of the swinging arm between the disk and the sprocket. Then push the bike forward slightly. This turns the eccentric, moving the wheel back slightly and tightening the chain. Then do the bolts back up and take out the pin you used to lock the wheel to the eccentric.

It you need any help then let me know.

All the best

Keith
